How to Sail Through the Holidays without Gaining a Pound

There is a way that you can enjoy the holidays, including great food, without going overboard.  Here are 5 suggestions that can help you stay in check during holiday time: Try the “3 Meal Magic” plan. Three meals with nothing in between but calorie-free liquids. You’ll be amazed at how much easier it is to abstain from unhealthy foods when you work within the three meal structure; only eat meals, not nibbley things like nuts, chips, or candies. You will be eliminating most of the trouble foods when you practice 3 Meal Magic! “Just one” Theory.Remember, there is no such thing as “just one”. If you think you can handle eating just one, or even just one handful of nibbley things, take a hard look as to how successful you’ve been at eating “just one”. “None” is better than “some”, especially if you’re prone to emotional eating.  Help out by serving others. Instead of hanging out by the dessert table looking for some company, be proactive and help the hostess. Clear the table or offer to do some dishes. Getting into action will take your mind off of food and fill you up with a feeling of usefulness.  Free food isn’t free.I don’t know why this is, but whenever food is free, people think they had better get their fill. It’s been a long time since the last famine, so it really doesn’t make sense. Tell yourself you can have whatever you want, anytime, even if you have to pay for it later. Then just decline the freebies. Buffet. Food buffets, especially at restaurants, are usually big traps for emotional eaters. Even if we intend to eat a normal amount, by the time we’re in the middle of the buffet and have a full plate, we feel obligated to continue putting food on until we’re at the end. When you hear the word "cleanse," do you think of hunger? Does your face scrunch up at the thought of all those restrictions? Health and beauty come at a cost, right? WRONG! A cleanse should bring your body energy, health, and a vibrant glow. It should flood your system with all the essential nutrients it's been craving while flushing out toxins, reducing inflammation, and healing your body. And it should come with choices that will set you up for a successful cleanse. Don’t you wish there was a way to cleanse and reset your health while feeling motivated, and energized, and slimmer each day? The good news is, a rapid reset like this does exist! The Problem with Typical Cleanses It’s unfortunate that cleanses don’t always provide the most positive experiences. How about my Asian Chicken Bone Broth? The savory flavors will make it hard to believe this is even a cleansing recipe! And it’s so easy to make it yourself. To make it even better, toss in a handful of cabbage or bok choy — cruciferous veggies are known for their calcium and glucosinolates to help your detoxing efforts. Asian Chicken Bone Broth Prep Time: 5 minutes | Cook Time: 5–10 minutes | Yield: Makes 4 cups (1 quart) 4  cups (1 quart) of nutritious chicken bone broth (or substitute for Vegan diet) 3" length of lemongrass, slice 1" pieces 1 small clove of garlic, smashed 1 handful of shiitake mushrooms, sliced 2 scallions, cut into 1⁄2" pieces (use both white and green portions) Celtic or pink Himalayan salt to taste Ground black pepper to taste 2 tablespoons of chopped cilantro leaves Heat the bone broth in your saucepan over medium heat. Add in the lemongrass, garlic, mushrooms, and scallions. Reduce the heat to medium-low or low. Allow the broth to simmer for 5 to 10 minutes. Remove from heat and discard the lemongrass and garlic. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Top generously with the cilantro and enjoy! Modifications for Keto The Keto lifestyle has strict views on the number of carbs that should be consumed. By dramatically reducing the number of carbs in your daily diet, you throw your body into a stage of ketosis that burns ketone bodies instead of sugar for energy. Ketosis can help you melt away some serious belly fat, and because of that, it’s a fantastic addition to my Cleanse and Reset plan. It’s a magical turmeric bone broth fat burner. Talk about a bowl of healing goodness! Golden Bone Broth Recipe Ingredients: 8 ounces of Bone Broth (or use my Collagen Broth to Go) ¼  cup of coconut milk ½ tsp of ground turmeric powder ¼ tsp of salt ¼ tsp of pepper ¼ tsp of garlic powder Directions: Add all of your ingredients into a small pot and heat on medium until the bone broth begins to reach a slight rolling boil. You can even add a dash of cayenne pepper or cinnamon for a bit of added thermogenic properties. Don’t Give Up Your Exercise Goals Don’t mistake my Cleanse and Reset for one that deprives you of energy, motivation, and fulfillment. If your typical day involves exercise, then you should feel free to exercise! A rapid reset should strip you of toxins and illness, not dictate what activities you can and can’t do. Besides, exercising supports your cleansing efforts. When you work out, your body can trigger the release of additional toxins through your sweat and blood circulation. The decrease in protein and fiber won’t provide your body with the same amount of stored energy it is used to. Just be sure to listen to your body to ensure your safety. You’ll stay active without pushing yourself too hard. Coffee Lover Just another perfect example of making this rapid reset your own. I know better than to take coffee away from my coffee lovers! In fact, it’s another little luxury I encourage you to enjoy. The truth is, coffee has its own set of cleansing benefits. Contrary to what you’ve heard, coffee offers many health benefits. It’s actually hydrating, although many still believe it strips you of water. And yes, you can count this towards your daily water intake.  It can be tough to think about staying healthy and maintaining your weight around the holidays. I get it! We’re all human. We have work parties, family gatherings, and get-togethers with our friends. And with the holidays come the endless displays of holiday food, am I right? Cakes and cookies line the tables in the breakrooms. Buffets of holiday hams, hot chocolate, and easy to grab finger foods are everywhere you turn. But what do you do if you’re trying to stay true to your healthy lifestyle? Or maybe you’ve chosen the holiday season to start a 5-day cleanse of your body? Besides, a cleanse and reset of your system is a great way to fit into that sexy holiday party dress in a time crunch!   Choosing the Right Way to Cleanse and Reset Don’t let the holiday stress creep up on you. Your goals are attainable, and it all starts with the right cleanse. You already know there are a ton of cleanses out there, and many can be incredibly restricting. Often, people tend to give in to their cravings, or even toss in the towel instead of seeing it through. The soups in the Dr. Kellyann Cleanse book will spare you from cravings because they’re so filling and keep you satisfied for hours.            Turkey Bone Broth Prep time: 15 minutes Cook time: 2 to 8 hours (dependent upon your cooking mode) Servings: 1 gallon of turkey broth   What you’ll need: 3 or more pounds of raw or cooked turkey bones or carcasses 2 or more pounds of turkey thighs, legs, and/or wings Optional: add 6 to 8 chicken feet (they add a tremendous amount of collagen to your broth) 1⁄4 cup of apple cider vinegar 2 to 4 carrots, scrubbed and chopped 3 to 4 celery stalks, including the leafy part, roughly chopped 1 medium onion, cut to the desired size 1 to 2 garlic cloves 1 teaspoon of dried sage 2 teaspoons of Celtic or pink Himalayan salt 1 teaspoon of peppercorns   For additional fat-burning power, you may choose to add fat- burning spices: 1-inch piece of fresh ginger, sliced A handful of parsley or cilantro 1 teaspoon of fresh or ground turmeric 1⁄16 to 1⁄8 teaspoon of cayenne 1 to 2 teaspoons of cumin   Directions: Place all of the bones into your large stockpot, slow cooker, or pressure cooker. Add the vinegar and enough purified water to cover everything in your pot by one inch. Add all of your vegetables, herbs, and spices. Add more water, if needed.   Follow the instructions for the mode of cooking you choose:   On the stovetop: Over medium heat, bring the water to a simmer and reduce the heat to low. Cover and let simmer for at least 4 hours and up to 8. Add water as needed, so the bones are always covered.   In a slow cooker: Set your cooker to low, cover, and let simmer for 8 hours.   In a pressure cooker or Instant Pot: Using your cooker’s instructions, bring up to full pressure. Reduce the heat to low, maintaining full pressure, and cook for 2 hours. Allow the pressure to naturally release. When the broth is done, remove bones and meat. Pour the broth through a fine mesh strainer into a large bowl. Discard the solids and save the meat for future use. Tip: can also refrigerate or freeze the bones and reuse them to make more broth at another time. Let the broth cool completely before covering it and placing it in the refrigerator. When chilled, the broth should be very gelatinous. The broth will keep for approximately five days in the fridge and 3 or more months if you store it in the freezer.   Holiday Dessert to Drool Over Your guests will never believe your desserts are good for them! Wait until you tell them they’re not only delicious, but can help them maintain a healthy lifestyle, support healthy skin, and keep them from craving toxin-filled junk food they may usually pile on their plates! They won't believe you grabbed your masterpieces from Dr. Kellyann’s Cleanse and bone broth recipe files!     Pumpkin Cheesecake Ingredients: 1 1/2 scoops of Dr. Kellyann's Complete Collagen Protein 12oz. of cream cheese 2 large eggs 1-2 tbsp Stevia 1 can of pumpkin puree 1⁄4 cup of milk 1 tsp of vanilla extract A pinch of salt   Directions: Preheat oven to 325°F. Soften the cream cheese in a large mixing bowl. Add eggs and stevia, then mix with a blender. Add the remaining ingredients and continue mixing for 2-3 minutes. Pour mixture into a 6-inch baking pan lined with parchment paper. Bake for 25 minutes and then turn the oven down to 200° and bake for an additional hour.
