Why Do Shake Cleanses Work?

by Dr. Kellyann on Nov 12 2019
When you’re trying to get back to a healthier diet, slim down, and perk up, it can be challenging to choose the plan that works best for you. From meal-replacements shakes to intermittent fasting; what do you choose? Sticking with the plan you select is an even greater obstacle for most of us. This is one benefit to my five-day cleanse; it's quick, it's nutritious, and it's effective. You also won’t get bored with the variety of delicious soups, smoothies, and shakes I’ve created for you to enjoy. Not to mention, they make your cleanse pretty stress-free.   Benefits of a Shake Cleanse When done right, a shake cleanse can offer your body tremendous benefits. With a shake cleanse, you're able to replace your regular meals with the ingredients of your choice. Lacking in the protein department? Add in a scoop of your nutritional supplements, such as collagen powder. With a balanced shake, you’ll increase your energy level, cleanse your body, and be in full control of your calorie intake.   Research Behind the Shake Cleanse Studies have shown that people who were placed on a low-calorie diet plan lost significantly less weight than those who were put on a meal replacement plan. So why is there such a sizable difference?   Cleansing Made Simple Some attribute the outcome to the simplicity of a shake cleanse. Today, we want things now. We want low maintenance. Most people find that a shake is much easier to prepare than a reduced-calorie meal, let alone three of them. Think about how busy our lives have become. Making a quick shake versus a healthy well-balanced meal is the easier option for many of us. A shake cleanse even gets bonus points because people are more likely to stick with a diet plan that causes little fuss, preparation, and planning. Paired with my five-day cleanse, you’ll appreciate the ease it offers.   Calorie Counting Made Simple When you prepare your own shakes, you’re in control of what goes in and what stays out. Portion size, sugar content, and powdered supplements are all handled with ease. Shakes can be made with quick, precise measurements; offering the ability to track all your calories easily. And while you’re cutting back on calories, a shake is a simpler way to ensure you’re adding in the recommended amount of nutrients your body needs.   Portion Control Made Simple A shake plan can also curb your habit of overeating. Try to think back to the times you've sat and picked at your food on your plate simply because it was still there in front of you. There's a sensory component to eating, and many of us will overindulge. Replacing a meal with a shake takes that temptation right out of the equation.   With my five-day cleanse, you’ll fill your body with all the nutrients it needs to repair and rejuvenate. You’ll flush out toxins while enjoying an array of shake recipes I provide for you. It really can’t get much easier than this. And just think about how refreshed you’re going to feel by this time next week. Your skin will once again have that youthful, natural glow. The stubborn belly fat will quickly melt away. Your gut will heal, and your spirits will lift. Ready to find out what a shake cleanse has in store for the new you? Keep thinking Big and living BOLD!

Lemony Chicken: Delicious Healing Recipe for Your Cleanse

by Dr. Kellyann on Nov 11 2019
It's a little shocking to me how people still cringe at the words diet or cleanse. There are so many plans out there today, so that cringe tells me they just haven't stumbled upon the right one yet; the Cleanse and Reset. How can I be so sure? Because my five-day cleanse offers a buffet of choices, so you'll never feel deprived or bored with what you’re “allowed” to consume. It's a cleanse and reset plan that not only heals your body but teaches you how to continue on the healthy lifestyle path. This cleanse will restore, revitalize, and reboot both body and mind by building you up with delicious recipes full of everything your body needs to heal.    Cleanse and Reset with the Best Ingredients When I needed a cleanse that would restore my health in a hurry, I never imagined the phenomenal results I’d achieve in such a short time. Even during day one, I was feeling a transformation take place. This five-day cleanse won’t leave you wanting. You’ll be filling your stomach with a variety of nutritious fruits and veggies full of phytochemicals that help cleanse your body of toxins. They’ll heal your leaky gut and promote safe, rapid weight loss. You’ll also enjoy clean protein to boost your energy level, unlike other cleanses that strip you of energy and leave you feeling sluggish and unmotivated every day. And then there’s bone broth and collagen. While they help keep your stomach satisfied, they’ll also be hard at work healing your body inside and out. From wrinkles to inflammation, they’re major players that will cleanse, restore, repair, and rejuvenate.   A Recipe for Healing One of my favorite go-to recipes on this plan is the Lemony Chicken Vegetable. Loaded with the essentials needed to rebuild your health, you’ll be amazed at how tasty it is. And if you’ve been with me a while, you know I don’t disappoint. I’ll provide you with all the delicious, healing recipes you could ever need for this plan, including this one:   LEMONY CHICKEN VEGETABLE Prep time: 20 min. | Cook time: 25 min. | Yield: 4-6 servings 2 tbsp of ghee or pasture-raised butter 1 clove of garlic 1 leek, white and green parts only, thinly sliced 4 cups of Chicken Bone Broth or Dr. Kellyann's Collagen Broth 2 carrots, sliced 2 celery stalks, sliced 1-2 cups of zucchini or yellow squash 2 tsp of lemon zest 2 tbsp of fresh lemon juice ¼ cup of fresh parsley or basil, coarsely chopped 1 tsp of herbs de Provence 1½ teaspoons of Celtic or pink Himalayan salt ½ teaspoon of freshly ground 2 or more cups of loosely packed spinach   Directions: In a large stockpot, melt the ghee over medium-high heat. Add the garlic and leeks and sauté for 3-5 minutes on medium heat. Add the bone broth, carrots, celery, zucchini, lemon zest, lemon juice, parsley, herbs de Provence, salt, and pepper.  Bring to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low and cover. Stir occasionally, for about 20 minutes, or until the carrots are tender. Stir in the spinach and serve with a lemon wedge. Enjoy!   Are you ready to get rid of that belly fat, find more energy, and cleanse your body of harmful toxins? With my five-day cleanse, you’ll repair your health without even feeling like you’re on a cleanse. Grab your copy of Cleanse and Reset and let’s start cooking! Keep thinking Big and living BOLD!

How to Beat Hunger and Cravings on the Cleanse and Reset

by Dr. Kellyann on Nov 08 2019
Before you turn your nose up at the mention of another cleanse, let me fill you in on WHY you probably haven't seen the results you wanted in the past. There are many wonderful benefits of a cleanse, but you need the RIGHT cleanse to get you there. One of the most common complaints I hear is the dread of constant hunger. And if you’re hungry, you may cut your cleanse short, let cravings win, or suffer through, dealing with the fatigue and run-down appearance it causes. But what if you could experience a five-day cleanse that would not only cleanse and reset you physically and mentally but give you the energy and satisfied stomach to see you through to the finish line? Here’s why it’s not too good to be true.   The Need for Protein  There is a misconception that proteins have no place in cleanses. Most cleanses limit you to water and green juice with the belief that the lack of protein is the only way to allow your gut time to heal. It’s believed that time off from digesting solids will lead to the successful cleanse and reset of your body. But you likely noticed you were left feeling sluggish, hungry, and lacking a healthy skin tone. Can you guess what your cleanse was lacking? Clean protein. The amino acids that protein provides offer many benefits, including: Getting rid of bloating Improving your immune system Strengthening the wall of your gut Cleansing and unclogging your cells Repairing your joints Fill you up and prevent cravings   The best part is, you will still be giving your gut time to rest and heal. My five-day cleanse is based on a liquid form of protein through bone broth and collagen. They are allergen-free proteins that are gentle as well as healing and fulfilling.   Feeling Deprived or Depleted? Not on My Cleanse! My five-day cleanse will load you up on all the essential nutrients your body needs to cleanse and reset properly. And I do mean load you up. Most cleanses lack the abundance of nutrients vital to healing your body, adding to your feelings of exhaustion and hunger. A cleanse should flood your system with: Potassium to keep you from feeling bloated and low on energy Zinc to guard against infections Vitamins A and C to regulate your thyroid, promote weight loss and collagen production   And the list goes on. Limiting your body of any crucial nutrient will hinder your cleansing efforts. Period.   Fiber = Full My Cleanse and Reset provides you with tools to ensure success. You’ll find recipes for smoothies, shakes, and soups as well as a grocery list to make it easy! Your “yes” food list will contain fiber-packed foods to promote cleansing and help you feel full and satisfied. Plus, they’re insanely low in calories, so fill up! You won’t need to worry about cleansing cravings standing in your way of a healthy body and slimmer waist.   Give me five days to show you what a true cleanse can do for you. You’ll feel restored, refreshed, and rejuvenated. Get started today! Keep thinking Big and living BOLD!

How Do I Stay Healthy During the Cleanse and Reset?

by Dr. Kellyann on Nov 06 2019
As you prepare to begin your cleanse, you'll want to ensure you stay healthy throughout the process. When done right, a cleanse can restore your body and have you feeling healthier in a matter of days. While some cleanses leave you feeling sluggish, deprived, or unmotivated, my cleanse and reset builds you back up and energizes you. In just five days, you’ll experience a rapid reset that will leave you rejuvenated. So how do you prepare your body and mind, so you stay healthy during your cleanse? Hydrate! Hydrate! Hydrate! Start hydrating a couple of days before you even start your rapid reset. This will help prepare your body for the cleanse (although you should be hydrating daily anyway). Be sure to get in at least eight cups of water every day.  Rest and Repair Getting a good night’s sleep is critical to maintaining your physical and mental health. Keep in mind that some of you will be drastically reducing the usual amount of carbs, proteins, and sugars your body is used to eating. It could be a bit of a bumpy ride at first, so treat your body and mind right and get your rest.  If possible, get seven to eight hours of sleep each night.  Eat Consistently Try to plan your meals or snacks, so they are spread out evenly and consistently throughout your day. A general rule of thumb is every three to four hours. On my cleanse and reset plan, you'll be getting more than enough nutrients for your body to feel energized as well as satisfied all day. However, there are cleanses that will leave you with little energy and often hungry. Spacing out your meals consistently can keep you energized and curb some of your hunger and cravings throughout the day. Fill Up On “Yes” Foods There are many choices of fresh, whole foods to choose from while you cleanse and reset. My rapid reset provides you with tasty recipes and a list of “yes” foods; many of which are found under the unlimited servings category. Fill up! Packed with the vitamins and nutrients your body needs, these nutritious “yes” foods will keep you healthy and satisfied. Although you'll be cutting back on carbs and protein, you'll still be taking in enough to promote a healthy and safe cleanse. Stop the Sugar Demon You know that feeling you get when you crave something sweet? I mean have-to-have-it-now, kind of crave. When you’re so used to filling your body with sugar, then go without for a bit? I often refer to that as the sugar demon. You’ll be cutting out almost all sugar for your cleanse, and it may not be pretty. If this is you, prepare for a challenge, but know that you can do this! Sugar leads to inflammation, and you know where that will get you; prone to pain, illness, and disease. So, do your body a favor and cut out the added sugar. Besides, you may find you can do without a lot of the sweet stuff after you’re through.  Following these quick tips will help keep your body strong and nourished during your cleanse. Give me five days to help you reset your body and mind. Start your transformation today.   Keep thinking Big and living BOLD!

Does the Cleanse and Reset Work with a Vegan Diet?

by Dr. Kellyann on Nov 04 2019
Not long ago, I went from a commuting fiasco via airplane floor to a cleansed, energized, radiant ME! Hearing about my experience and how it led to an incredible five-day cleanse transformation has encouraged many of you to reach out. One of the questions I receive most often is how to experience the benefits of my cleanse and reset if you are a vegan. It would only be fair of me to create a cleanse that everyone can benefit from, right? I’ll walk you through various ways you can tailor your diet to the cleanse to make it a successful one. What is the Cleanse and Reset? When I found myself in a health crisis and in dire need of a reboot, I came up with a five-day cleanse that revitalized everything about me. Not only did I rid my body of the toxins that had been weighing me down, I actually felt utterly cleansed from the inside-out. The extra belly fat I had accumulated was melting away. My skin's youthful glow and firmness returned. The bloating, the exhaustion, the constant feelings of blah all turned around with this five-day cleanse. With a properly balanced diet of select soups, green smoothies, and shakes, I had found a way to quickly restore my health, clear my head, and find myself again. I felt amazing! Although it hadn’t been the plan, I knew I couldn’t just keep this to myself. Modifying for a Vegan Cleanse Just like my bone broth, this was a cleanse that had to be available to everyone. So you’ve asked how you can restore your health with a five-day cleanse full of collagen? While collagen and bone broth may not be a part of your animal-free diet, you can still make beneficial modifications to my cleanse and reset. Here’s how to turn it into your personal vegan cleanse:  Substitute vegetable broth for bone broth in any of my recommended recipes. Vegetable broth is packed with potassium, so it makes an amazing substitution. Leave out the collagen powder when making my green smoothie recipes. Instead of using collagen powder in your shake, try using pea, egg, or hemp powder. They aren’t quite as rich in protein but are a great choice. Substitute Collagen Your vegan cleanse may not have collagen, but it will have the building blocks of collagen. The two primary amino acids that are found in collagen are glycine and proline. Adding an abundance of these in place of collagen will do just fine. Try to focus on foods such as:  Cucumber Kale Spinach Banana Kiwi Cabbage Asparagus Chives Watercress You will also want to incorporate these substitutes because they help your body synthesize more collagen. And who doesn’t need more collagen benefits? You'll find many tasty recipes included in my cleanse and reset plan, including more suggestions for your vegan cleanse. I've taken all the guesswork out of it so you can concentrate on restoring balance to your body. Ready to hit that reset button? Start your five-day road to wellness now!   Keep thinking Big and living BOLD!

10 Steps to Prepare for the Cleanse and Reset

by Dr. Kellyann on Nov 01 2019
Deciding to live a healthy lifestyle can be a big step. For some, it may be a complete change of diet and exercise that your body is not used to. Being prepared for your cleanse and reset can help ensure a smoother transition. To help you achieve your goals, there are a few steps you can take to set yourself up for a successful five-day cleanse before you get started. Let me walk you through them: Choose Your Start Date What’s Your “Why?” Ask Friends and Family for Support Clean Out That Kitchen! Stocking Up and Batch Prepping Clean Water is a Must Build Your Smoothie Strategy Slowly Start to Prepare Your Body Know What Each Day May Bring Be Prepared for Two Challenges Ahead Choose Your Start Date There's nothing better than being prepared and organized. That applies to your cleanses too. Setting a start date is the perfect first step. If it's possible, try to choose a time to start your five-day cleanse when your schedule isn't as hectic. Your cleanse and reset will go much smoother if you have fewer commitments that have the potential to distract you. We don’t want any reasons for you to not stick with it! If you have events coming up for instance, you may want to start your five-day cleanse afterward to avoid temptation. You may think you can resist one little cupcake but when everyone at the birthday party has one in hand, can you promise me your sugar cravings won’t get the best of you? Take a peek at your calendar and set the best date possible to help you start off on the right foot. What’s Your “Why?” Focusing on your “why” helps set you up to reach your end goal. So, what is your “why?” Why do you want to start this cleanse now? What do you want the end results to be? Do you lack energy? Are you feeling unmotivated, burned out, and unhappy? Do you have areas of your body that you want to target such as extra belly fat or dull, wrinkled skin? Whatever it is that’s motivating you to take this step towards a cleanse and reset, write them down and be proud of the actions you're about to take. I want you to put this list somewhere you'll see it every day during your five-day cleanse. Let this list inspire you and when you feel things getting challenging, let your list remind you of what your end result is going to be. Encourage yourself and get the support of others. This five-day cleanse will be over before you know it, and your body is going to thank you for the results! Ask Friends and Family for Support There's nothing like a supportive team of people behind you who believe in you and will be there to cheer you on. Let your friends and family know about your five-day cleanse and the goals you have to cleanse and reset your body. Explain the benefits this cleanse has to offer and share your “why” with them. Let them know how they can help and support you while you work to reset and rejuvenate your body and mind. Ask them for their encouragement if they see you struggling so you can get back on track. Your loved ones will understand the need for a healthy jump start. Who knows…you may even find a few of them that are inspired by the idea and want to join you. Now, let's be real here. We all have one or two in our bunch who thrive on being the Negative Nancy of the group. Don't let this discourage or distract you one bit. You've set out to make a change in your lifestyle, so keep your focus on your cleanse and reset goals and show them you can do it. Clean Out That Kitchen! You knew this part was coming at some point, so let's get to it. I walk you through the “yes” and “no” foods to keep, avoid, and shop for, along with a ton of delicious recipes in my Cleanse and Reset book. I want to make this as uncomplicated as possible by arming you with all the tools you need to succeed. Get rid of “no” foods that could cause temptation or setbacks. Now, I'm not saying go and throw out everything “bad” in your fridge and pantry but be smart about what you keep on hand. Donate unnecessary food to your local shelter or ask someone to hold on to it for you until your five-day cleanse is over. Here are a few ideas of “yes” foods that are unlimited to you, to help with your kitchen raid: You DO want foods such as: Broccoli Cucumbers Mushrooms Spinach Kale Zucchini Avocados Ghee Tomatoes Summer squash Stocking Up and Batch Prepping Being prepared mentally for your five-day cleanse is just one part of the battle. If you can prepare your meals ahead of time, you'll be in fabulous shape. I always like to plan a batch prepping day so that everything I need is ready and easily accessible to me when I start my cleanse and reset. This eliminates any temptations I may have if my schedule gets hectic and I feel like grabbing something convenient instead. Batch prepping has come to be a day I thoroughly enjoy, and I attribute a tremendous amount of success to taking advantage of this step in my preparations. When I designed this cleanse, I wanted to be able to knock out everything I needed with one shopping trip and one or two batch prep days. After I have chosen my cleansing start date, I immediately schedule my shopping and batch days, then get started on my list. In Cleanse and Reset, you'll be able to see exactly what I buy to help simplify this portion of your preparation. Clean Water is a Must Not everyone realizes how important it is not only to eat clean but to drink clean as well. During your five-day cleanse you'll want to avoid drinking tap water. I go into more detail in my book but trust me when I say your tap water isn't clean. If there isn't a filtration system in your home, pick up a filtering pitcher. It's a great habit to get into even after your cleanse. I also like to have a water infuser bottle on hand for my detox water. It's certainly not necessary, but it is a handy tip I like to pass on. Having it around will also remind you to make sure you're getting enough water in your system throughout your five-day cleanse. Build Your Smoothie Strategy Now it's time to put together your smoothie strategy. If you already have an efficient blender, great! If not, it's an excellent investment that will make your cleanse easier, less expensive, and healthier. But if it's not in your budget, not to worry…getting your smoothies from a smoothie bar works too, IF you follow my guidance.  It's important to remember that most of your on-the-go smoothies contain way more sugar than you can imagine. So, all those times you thought you were swinging by to grab a healthy fruit smoothie, you were mostly appeasing your sweet tooth. But if you stay away from the menu, you'll do just fine. Ask to have an off-the-menu smoothie made for you and let them know exactly what you need: A list of the main ingredients for your smoothie; remember your “yes” and “no” foods Substitute water for the apple, beet, or carrot juice they typically use as their base And AVOID store-bought smoothies like the Plague! There's even more sugar in those pretty little bottles than you'll find at the smoothie bar. Just don't do it!  Slowly Start to Prepare Your Body At this point, you're almost there. You'll want to begin two or three days before the start of your five-day cleanse to prepare your body for the change slowly. This includes lots of clean water. Hydration is essential, so don't skip this part. Start weaning your body off of carbs and any other dense foods you may normally eat. Try to take in lean protein, healthy fats, and lots of nutritious leafy greens instead. Taking these steps will help your body transition more easily when you start your five-day cleanse. Know What Each Day May Bring I want you to be mentally prepared for what each day may bring during your cleanse and reset. Keep in mind, everyone's results will be a little different. If you are not already following a keto plan and do not plan to do the Keto Push, here’s what you can typically expect each day on your cleanse: Day 1: Your body is full of energy, and you are ramped up for your transformation. Day 2: Your body is likely still adjusting to your new meal plan, but you’re on your way! Day 3: You're starting to notice you're not bloating anymore. You’re probably experiencing other positive changes in your digestive system as well. Day 4: By now, you and others around you can see the amazing transformation you're going through. You're feeling like your insides are much cleaner while you and others are noticing a brightened complexion, a slimmer waist, and a boost in your mood. If you’ve been limiting your intake of starchy fruits and vegetables, day four may have you feeling a touch of the “carb flu.” More on this in a moment. Day 5: You’re feeling revived. You can actually feel clean inside your body. You made it, and you're ready to take on anything!  Be Prepared for Two Possible Challenges I mentioned the carb flu earlier. A drastic cut in your carb intake causes your cells to burn fat in place of sugar for energy. While this is kicking fat-melting into high gear, it can cause flu-like symptoms I call the carb flu. Don't worry; it's a temporary and short-lived side effect of your cleanse and reset. If you tend to eat a lot of carbs in your regular diet, your cells don't have to work all that hard on getting fuel. You've pretty much become their sugar supplier; showering them with more than enough to allow them to cruise on autopilot. So, when you strip them of their sugar source, they are forced to get to work to burn fat. Fat burning is much more difficult on your cells and can cause you to feel tired and irritable. Although this doesn't sound very pleasant, it's a sign that you've thrown your body into fat-burning mode. Your feelings of sluggishness are entirely normal, but you'll want to keep this in mind if you need another reason to schedule your five-day cleanse during a less hectic week. Your body is working hard to rid itself of toxins, so you may also experience additional symptoms, including: Runny nose Acne outbreak Slight digestive issues I recommend keeping a journal during your cleanse so that you can track how your body is feeling, noticeable progress, and signs letting you know you may be getting a touch of the carb flu. Going for a walk or other light activities will help you through this time.  The second possible challenge you may face during your cleanse and reset is what I often call the “sugar demon.” Those of you with a major sweet tooth already know what I'm talking about. Yes, you're going to be giving up the majority of your sugar intake for five straight days. It's a tough habit to break, especially considering our bodies were wired to crave sugar for energy. But limiting your sugar intake is a must during your cleanse, and I can't stress enough how beneficial it is if you can do it daily. There's no denying it will be tough, but the benefits you will reap at the end will be more than worth it. And there you have it. All you can expect from your five-day cleanse, outlined for you. No surprises here; just a blueprint to help you achieve your restoration goals. Ready to start preparing for your transformation to a healthier you? Grab my Cleanse and Reset and let’s get started! Cleanse Smoothie Recipes That Actually Work

by Dr. Kellyann on Oct 30 2019
If you’ve tried a smoothie cleanse in the past with little to no success, you aren’t alone. What most people don’t realize is unless you’re making your own, most smoothies are made up of an unbelievable amount of sugar. While you think you are doing your body good by filling up on fruits and veggies, you’re overloading it with additional ingredients full of potential illness. Sugar causes inflammation; opening you up to the risk of a long list of health concerns. My five-day cleanse is different from the smoothie cleanse you tried in the past. What is a smoothie cleanse? Nutrients your body receives from my smoothie cleanse recipes push out toxins, then cleanse and strengthen your cells. Juice or Smoothie: Which Cleanse Is Right for Me?

by Dr. Kellyann on Oct 28 2019
Making the decision to cleanse and reset your body can be a bit daunting. There are so many questions on your mind, as there should be. Is it safe? How long should a cleanse last? Is it necessary to do them? Is there a rapid reset? Which cleanse will give me the best results? So, I thought we’d dive into the juice cleanse vs. smoothie cleanse debate. Both are packed full of delicious fruits and veggies, so they must be healthy, right? Why Consider a Cleanse? Even though your body was built to naturally cleanses itself, you need to remember that it can only do so much without your help. Toxins surround us daily. There's just no escaping them. These nasty little toxins wreak havoc on your body and can cause cognitive impairments, inflammation, and even lead to extra belly fat and added wrinkles. This small list alone is certainly enough to make someone a believer in needing to cleanse and reset. Environmental toxins aren't our only issue, though. Our own cells are creating free radicals and becoming little waste creators. If we expect our bodies to hold up and keep us healthy, we need to do our part to support the natural cleanse and reset systems it has in place. But I Don’t Think I Need a Cleanse We are all exposed to these toxins, even when we assume we are safe. Let’s look at water, for example. We have many regulations put in place to provide us with safe drinking water, but there are still toxins that sneak through. Now, these are very low doses but think for a second how often you’re using water and on a daily basis. Even a low exposure dose can be damaging to your body from chronic use. So why should you cleanse and reset your body? What if I told you the water you drink or use to prepare your family meals could contain traces of pesticides, copper, and lead? Still wondering why cleanses are a good idea? I bet you’re wondering how soon you can start a rapid reset. A Closer Look at Cleanses A cleanse can certainly help you eliminate various toxins from your body. While they may be able to cleanse and reset your systems, it's important to know that your typical juice cleanse or smoothie cleanse doesn't work for everyone. In fact, many cleanses have such a restrictive diet that it's challenging to stick to one and see it through to the end. If you’re looking for an easy rapid reset, these may not be the options for you. For many that do complete their juice or smoothie cleanse, the benefits are not as long-lasting as they’d expected. Many tend to return to their regular daily habits; gain back the lost weight and return to an unhealthy diet. So, you may be wondering why you should bother putting yourself through such a rigid diet if results are only going to be temporary. Well, the answer is simple. It's not a once-in-a-while juice cleanse or a quick-fix smoothie cleanse that is going to restore your health and detox your body. It needs to be a healthy lifestyle change. If your goal is to find a rapid reset to get rid of unwanted belly fat and keep it off, have radiant, glowing skin, and a healthy body to protect you against illness, then change is a necessity. Juice Cleanse or Smoothie Cleanse: The Bigger Picture Before we get into the battle of the cleanses, let's take a look at some of the big picture benefits a juice cleanse or smoothie cleanse can provide you. Some of these cleanses promote the use of whole foods. While these unrefined, unprocessed plant foods sound healthy, you'll still want to choose whole foods that will support a clean, healthy body. Grains, for instance, can be the cause of your unhappy gut. They can lead to inflammation, various diseases, and unwanted belly fat, to name a few. Select the right whole foods packed with vitamins, nutrients, and antioxidants. They'll provide you with radiant skin, protection from fine lines and wrinkles, and ward off inflammation. Choose foods such as blueberries. They are known for being vitamin and nutrient-rich, but did you know these little guys also contained the power to:  Promote strong, healthy bones Slow down or reduce cognitive impairment caused by aging Improve your short-term memory Promote a healthy blood pressure level Improve your coordination   Lower your risk for certain cancers, diabetes, and obesity Help treat post-traumatic stress disorder What Is a Juice Cleanse? A juice cleanse is a detox plan which allows you only to consume fruits and veggies that have been juiced, or had their juices extracted. There are various lengths of juice cleanses, usually based on your individual goals, health, and program you may be following. You’ll find they typically run between two and seven days. It's important to take into consideration that juicing removes the fiber from these foods. Now I will say if you are one to have an issue with a high fiber diet, a juice cleanse will definitely be easier on your system than a smoothie cleanse. Aside from that, they leave your body wanting for fiber.  Benefits of a Juice Cleanse As long as you are watching your sugar intake, there can be benefits to trying a juice cleanse. The fruit and vegetables you choose will provide you with a rapid reset and an excellent source of vitamins and nutrients. They help support your body’s natural cleanse and reset systems. The nutrients in these fruits and veggies are easily and quickly absorbed and work to support a healthy immune system and a happy gut. They also can help you lose weight, so who can argue with that?  The Down-Side of Juicing Too much juice can cause unwanted issues, such as a nutritional imbalance. You may be overdoing it on your potassium while lacking in sodium, for instance. A juice cleanse may also be a bit harder for some to ward off hunger and cravings. You won't find the healthy fats and proteins in a juice that your body needs to feel full for more extended periods of time. And PLEASE don't rush out and grab any ‘ole bottle of juice! Do your homework first. The latest juice craze could be loaded with extra sugar. Be selective about the cleanses you try, or it won't do your body any good. Just because it promises a rapid reset, doesn’t always mean it’s healthy for your body. Did I mention how costly they are? Think about it. You're throwing away a good portion of your fruits and vegetables (and the fiber!) with this cleanse. What is a Smoothie Cleanse? A smoothie cleanse is a blended drink, using fruits and veggies to help promote your detox and weight loss efforts. The length of your cleanse varies in length of days as well. A smoothie cleanse makes use of the entire fruit or vegetable you add to your blender. No waste here! This means you are getting a higher dose of fiber than with the juice option.   Benefits of a Smoothie Cleanse Smoothies are a rich source of fiber, nutrients, vitamins, and antioxidants. Smoothies may also contain more nutritional value than juice. The increase in fiber will help you feel fuller, longer. And there may be an added benefit to choosing a blended cleanse. A study involving grapefruit used methods of hand-squeezing, juicing, and blending to compare levels of phytochemicals. It is believed that phytochemicals help reduce your risk of certain cancers by protecting cell damage. The blending method showed grapefruit juice had the highest content of phytochemicals, while also containing more limonin and flavonoids than the other methods.  The Down-Side of Smoothies As I mentioned earlier, some people cannot tolerate large quantities of fiber as well as others. You may experience digestive issues while on a smoothie cleanse, due to the higher content of fiber you’ll consume. Texture can be another drawback in some cases. Smoothies tend to be a thick consistency that isn’t enjoyed by all. Like juice, you also won’t be getting any protein or fats that a meal would provide. A Healthy Smoothie Option Want a fantastic solution for getting in your daily protein while you’re on a juice or smoothie cleanse?  A great source of protein comes from collagen, which provides you with a rapid reset and can easily be added to your cleansing drinks. With a scoop of Complete Collagen Protein, you’ll get amazing benefits, including: Firmer skin Reduced signs of aging – fine lines and wrinkles Reduced sunspots Protection against inflammation A boost to your immune system Promotes a happy, healthy gut Improves muscle tone Brings relief to joint pain Choosing a cleanse doesn’t have to mean cutting off your body from what it needs to thrive. Such a simple solution as collagen protein takes minimal effort when preparing your juice or smoothie cleanse. Isn’t it worth it when you consider the ongoing list of benefits? I even have a tasty collagen duo recipe you’re going to love! It’s filled with vitamins, nutrients, and protein to help cleanse your body with all the added bonuses! Ginger Mango Shake Yield: 1 servings Ingredients: 1 cup of water ⅓ cup full-fat coconut milk ⅓ cup mango (fresh or frozen) ½-inch piece fresh ginger, peeled and grated 2 packets of my Collagen Shake in Vanilla Almond Stevia or monk fruit (optional) Ice Directions: Combine all of your ingredients in your blender. Blend well and serve. You can swap my Collagen Shake in Vanilla Almond for 1 scoop of my Bone Broth Protein in Vanilla or 1 scoop of my flavorless Complete Collagen Protein. by Dr. Kellyann on Oct 25 2019
There are many ways you can support your body’s natural cleansing systems while restoring balance to your physical and mental health. Jump-starting your healthy lifestyle with my five-day cleanse will rejuvenate you by ridding your body of toxins and inflammation. You’ll heal your body from the inside out and restore your health in under a week. I did! Continuing on your road to health after your rapid reset will keep you feeling refreshed and energized. By choosing the right foods, you can continue your efforts to cleanse your body daily. Want to know the top five foods that will keep you feeling revived and in fantastic health? Lemons Beets Sulfuric foods Cruciferous vegetables Dandelion Returning to a Healthy Lifestyle After facing health issues that landed me on the floor of an airplane, I was forced to take a good, hard look at the path that had led me there. I had ignored my body — plain and simple. The signs had been there, yet I continued to ignore them. I let a hectic schedule come first and put my health and happiness second. I knew it was time for a rapid reset to restore my health and return to a healthy lifestyle. The five-day cleanse turned my health around, and trust me when I say, I’m not going back to the unhealthy me. Not only do I continue to repeat my five-day cleanse every three to four months, I pack my meals with the foods I know will continue to cleanse my body until my next rapid reset. So, what’s so spectacular about these amazing foods? What foods consistently cleanse?  Lemons to start your day Lemons are the perfect choice for helping your body flush out those impurities that are trying to bring you back down. Lemon juice can be your secret weapon after your rapid reset to keeping your cleanse going. It’s known for its ability to stimulate your liver for precisely this reason. Lemons are packed with vitamin C to boost your immune system and help produce glutathione. Glutathiones offer incredible benefits, including:  Improved circulation: It has allowed patients with peripheral artery disease the ability to walk without pain. May reduce oxidative stress to fight autoimmune disease, cancers, diabetes, and rheumatoid arthritis. Decreases the occurrence of cell death in your liver. Make it a habit to start each day with hot lemon water. It can give your body a boost while rehydrating after a long night of sleep. Drinking hot lemon water on an empty stomach is best, as it will stimulate metabolism; helping with various digestive issues.  Beets: A liver's best friend Beets are known for their power to keep your liver healthy and strong. Beets provide support to your liver by ridding your body of toxins. They also work to: Increase bile production Activate enzymes in your liver Reduce inflammation Reduce your risk of damage to your liver Beets are amazing as a side, but you'll love them in a smoothie! You’d never know these tasty guys could have so much impact on prolonging your rapid reset results. A buffet of cruciferous veggies  You’ll have a wide variety of cruciferous veggies to choose from to continue the good your five-day cleanse has done. This group of powerful vegetables includes: Cauliflower Cabbage Bok choy Broccoli Arugula Brussels sprouts Kale Collard greens Watercress Radishes Load up on this group to fill your body with calcium. Calcium will help protect your body against various toxins. Glucosinolates, which are responsible for breaking down into cancer-fighting molecules (ITCs), help your body detox to fight against cancer risks. And here’s a helpful health tip – eat this group raw when you can. Cooking them reduces the bioavailability of the ITCs. Garlic and onions to push out the toxins You can continue the benefits of your five-day cleanse by adding garlic and onions to your diet. They help support your body’s detox and cleansing process by producing glutathione. These two are extremely rich in sulfur, making this antioxidant vital because it latches onto toxins and escorts them out of your body. Pretty powerful, right? It’s particularly useful for flushing out heavy-metals and protecting you against kidney damage.  These potent little detoxifiers can also reduce your risk for colon and liver cancer. Dandelions for detox Yep, dandelions. Known also as the “liver tonic,” dandelions, along with other bitter greens, boost the detox efforts of your liver. They act as a diuretic; increasing urine output to flush your system. You can easily toss a handful into your teas, soups, and salads. Did you know they are useful for weight loss, removing kidney and urinary tract toxins? They also fight against bacteria and have a way of getting rid of all that uncomfortable bloating. It may also help soothe additional digestive issues. Adding dandelions to your diet post rapid reset will keep your body cleansed and refreshed long after your five-day cleanse has ended. Don’t forget to hydrate! Water helps eliminate the waste from your body and keeps your systems healthy and able to function properly. It’s the simplest way to help cleanse your body and shouldn’t be neglected; during or after your five-day cleanse. Water also boosts the health of your kidney and bowel functions. And you already know that water does wonders for your skin! Less fine lines, wrinkles, and a healthy glow? Yes, please! Don’t forget to add a lemon wedge or two. There are many cleansing foods to choose from to help continue your detox efforts. Choosing to add these foods, especially those from the top five cleansing list, will prolong those feelings of rejuvenation and restoration. You’ll even find several delicious recipes in my Cleanse and Reset book that call for various foods from this cleansing list. How Often Should You Cleanse or Detox Your Body?

by Dr. Kellyann on Oct 23 2019
Committing to a cleanse offers remarkable benefits for your health. Taking steps to rid your body of toxins will help you restore both your physical and mental health, typically in a matter of days. Feeling refreshed and cleansed inside and out will encourage you to continue on your healthy lifestyle journey. So, is it safe to repeat a cleanse and how often should you repeat your cleanse and reset? A Gentle Five-Day Cleanse While most cleanses tend to leave you feeling low on energy, hungry, and irritable, my five-day cleanse was designed to be gentle on your body, while fueling it with foods necessary to provide you with energy and a satisfied tummy. My cleanse and reset will fill you with clean protein; a much-needed macronutrient. You'll consume these macronutrients through delicious bone broth and collagen recipes, provided for you in my Cleanse and Reset book. By sticking to soups and smoothies, you are still giving your gut the time off it needs to heal from digesting solids. There won’t be any harsh treatment in this cleanse. Your body will be nurtured and pampered back to health, making this a safe cleanse to repeat.  The Myth of Clean Protein There has long since been a myth that protein has no place in a cleanse for it to work. But think about it - without the help of protein, a cleanse consisting of simple liquids or juices will leave your body feeling run down and looking worn and unhealthy. Why would anyone want to put their body through that, let alone consider repeating a cleanse that made them look and feel horrible? Clean protein provides your body with the amino acids it needs to help restore your health. It helps your body feel refreshed and energized during a cleanse. Your clean protein sources are coming from liquid forms, so you're still allowing your gut the time it needs to heal. Along with the many added benefits of bone broth and collagen, the amino acids in my gentle cleanse and reset work hard to repair and heal your gut, cells, immune system, and more. They also leave you with the benefit of satisfying your cravings. Can I Cleanse Again? There isn’t a clear-cut answer for this one. What you may want to consider asking instead is if it’s safe to repeat the cleanse you have chosen. How did you feel during the cleanse? How did you feel afterward, and did you see the results you were hoping for? We know that most cleanses tend to tear down your body; leaving you feeling hungry, sluggish, and just plain crabby. The drastic reduction in calories, carbs, and proteins doesn’t leave your body with much to run off of. More often than not, the pounds you're losing from these cleanses stem from your body being thrown into starvation and survival mode; so, the weight is bound to come right back. You’re likely restricting your body from many essential vitamins and nutrients; replacing them with sugary drinks and empty calories. Repeating cleanses that deplete your body isn’t the healthiest decision. A cleanse worth repeating should boost your energy, spirits, and strength — both during and after. It should heal your body and detox your cells, making you feel nothing less than your best. Cleanse and Reset. Repeat. My cleanse and reset provides what others simply do not. It’s a gentle cleanse that offers so many incredible benefits. Your body will love you for repeating the process. You can certainly revisit the five-day cleanse as often as once a month. If you tend to battle bloating, or seem to be running low on energy often, once a month may be an optimal routine for you. It allows your gut the extra healing time it may require. You'll also benefit from the monthly flush of toxins during this five-day cleanse. Your skin will repair quickly and regain its youthful glow. Your hair and nails will be restored to their strong, healthy state. This cleanse is perfectly safe and ensures your body continues to get the essential nutrients it needs to thrive. I recommend cleansing at least every quarter. Once every three to four months is a sufficient plan and is the routine I have developed for myself and many of my patients. With a quarterly five-day cleanse, my body has been able to maintain the weight loss while resetting my systems on a consistent, dependable schedule. There are many benefits to setting up a regular quarterly cleanse:  It provides the extra boost your body may need after a few months of being weighed down by the toxins you are exposed to daily. It gives your gut a chance to rest and take a well-deserved break from digesting solids. Consistent intervals provide a routine your body can count on. It fights inflammation that may have begun to build up in your body again. What Makes the Five-Day Cleanse Healthy and Safe? My cleanse encourages you to enjoy not one cleansing product, but three; soups, shakes, and green smoothies. You'll also find a wide variety of recipes for each, so you’ll never get stuck in a rut and feel tempted to stray from your cleanse. The recipes are packed with fruits and veggies that are full of phytochemicals. Phytochemicals work to flush toxins and energize your cells, make your eyes shine brighter, and your skin healthier. You’ll fill your body with the fiber it needs to heal any issues you may have with your GI tract. My cleanse promotes other health benefits, including: Safe weight loss Lower blood pressure Builds up your muscles Fights inflammation Heals a leaky gut Lowers your blood sugar Helps protect you from many cancers Promotes healthy blood vessels Protects you from blood clots Regulates your thyroid Honestly, I could go on and on about the benefits your body will receive with this good-for-you cleanse. I challenge you to take control of your health today and commit to five short, revitalizing days of healing. I’ll walk you through prepping your body, what to expect, and how to modify it for your keto, paleo, or vegan diet. I made it as simple as possible so you could concentrate on restoring your health. Grab the Cleanse and Reset and revive your health today! Keep thinking Big and living BOLD!

Detox vs. Cleanse: Is There a Difference?

by Dr. Kellyann on Oct 21 2019
You've probably heard the words detox and cleanse used interchangeably quite a bit. In fact, you've probably done this yourself more often than not. Although there are some similarities between the two, there are several distinct differences worth taking note of. Let's break it down and clear up the misconceptions, so you’re better equipped to choose the right option for yourself. The Target Both cleanses and detoxes work to rid your body of toxins. We are exposed to numerous toxins daily that threaten the health of our body. Through short-term changes and restrictions in our daily diet, our cells are cleansed, organs are repaired, and skin is rejuvenated. What is a Cleanse? When you cleanse and reset your body, you are putting most of the focus on cleaning out your digestive tract. A cleanse has the primary goal of removing toxins, waste, and parasites during a short period. While the most commonly talked about cleanses today are juice cleanses, it can be as simple as cutting back on particular foods, eating healthier and lighter, and removing allergenic foods from your diet. These simple changes help move the digestive process along more quickly; supporting the cleanse and reset of your system. The Truth About Juicing Juice cleanses are very popular and promote an easy, healthy method of cleansing out your system. Keep in mind, if you aren't making your own juice cleanses with the appropriate ingredients, you're likely doing more harm than good. To cleanse and reset your body effectively, you need to reduce or eliminate several items from your regular diet, including sugar. Most fruit juices you will find are loaded down with sugar. Between the fruits and the base of the juice cleanse; usually a sugary fruit juice, you're pumping an awful lot of potential inflammation and illness into your system. And most juice cleanses recommend that you drink several bottles a day. This can often have the reverse effects you were aiming for. That kind of defeats the purpose of your cleanse, don't you think? You could experience: A decrease in energy level Spikes in your insulin levels Loss of muscle Lack of concentration Changes in mood (and no, not for the better) Short-lived weight loss results The Upside of Juice Cleansing This doesn't mean that juice cleanses should be ruled out entirely. The right type of juice cleanse can have positive effects on your body. Making your juices at home is your best option to reap the full benefits of your cleanse and reset efforts. Substitute fruit juices with water as your base to eliminate as much sugar as possible. You'll want to select fruits that are on the lower end of the sugar content scale and higher in fiber content. This will help your stomach stay full longer while supporting your weight loss goals. With my Cleanse and Reset plan, I’ll walk you through the “yes” and “no” foods, what to buy on your pre-cleanse shopping trip, and a ton of yummy, low-sugar recipes to take the guesswork out of your cleanse. What is a Detox? A detox will rid your body of toxins but will do a deeper dive into your system. Also done in a short amount of time, it focuses on supporting your body’s natural detoxification efforts by targeting your digestive tract as well as your: Skin Lungs Kidneys Liver A detox will improve the functioning of your liver and kidneys. In turn, they will support the rest of your organs in the detoxing process. The typical detox plan starts you off with a fast, followed by a restricted diet. Usually, you’ll be limited to fruits, veggies, and specific liquids, such as lemon water and fruit and veggie smoothies. A detox can be done in a variety of ways and usually in combinations. You’ll find you can detox with infrared saunas, colonics, making changes to your regular diet and supplements, herbs, and teas. It helps the natural detox process by: Delivering crucial nutrients to your body Allow your organs to rest through your fasting period Remove toxins through sweat, urine, and bowel movements Increase the body’s circulation Support your liver in ridding your body from toxins Intermittent fasting offers benefits of its own that are quite remarkable. It can improve your energy level and cognitive functions while repairing muscle, and fighting off illness. Intermittent fasting also helps reverse the signs of aging. We all love that idea, don’t we? It has its own anti-inflammatory benefits too. It’s no wonder it pairs so well with a detox. You’ll notice a relief in muscle and joint pain, the loss of stubborn belly fat, and diminished cravings for sugar to help support your new, healthy lifestyle. A Cleanse Above All Others A few years ago, I experienced a terrifying and eye-opening health crash. In a determined search for a way back to my healthy, enthusiastic self, I developed a gentle and incredibly nourishing five-day cleanse. Unlike other cleanses, I loaded mine with clean protein in the liquid forms of bone broth and collagen. This allowed my gut to rest from solids while benefiting from the rewards of collagen. Through soups, smoothies, and shakes, I delivered a buffet of fruits and veggies, all containing an abundance of the essential nutrients my body needed to heal.  Restoring Your Health, Step-By-Step The results were too good not to share. So, if you’re feeling exhausted, unmotivated, and tired of being unhealthy, this cleanse is for you. If you can’t seem to shake the last of the belly fat or have noticed the dull, aging affects your skin has endured, this cleanse is for you. My Cleanse and Reset walks you through preparing your body for the cleanse, foods to eat and avoid, what to shop for, and even recipes to batch prep, so you are armed and ready to go! If you’ve tried a cleanse or detox that fell short of your health goals, give me five days to show you the benefits a nutritious cleanse and reset can bring. You’ll feel reset and refreshed in a matter of days. Start your five-day road to health with me today. Keep thinking Big and living BOLD!

The Ins and Outs of Green Drinks

by Dr. Kellyann on Oct 18 2019
Going green with low-sugar drinks like veggie juice and smoothies has a long list of benefits that can keep your body healthy, fit, and energized. Greens are packed full of phytonutrients, vitamins, and minerals that help guard your skin against sun damage, lower your risk of certain cancers, and promote strong bone health — and these are just a few of the benefits. Just wait till I really get started! Why Green Drinks? So why consider stepping up your greens? When I tell you about the endless benefits greens have to offer your body, you’ll be digging out your old blender and shopping for a juicer before you finish reading! And the best part is, you can add them into any of your bone broth diet recipes! Greens provide an abundance of vitamins and nutrients while offering a tremendous amount of health benefits. They provide your body antioxidants needed to help boost your immune system and fight off diseases, bacteria, and various illness. You know how big I am on a happy gut. I can’t say enough about the benefits of my bone broth diet. So, if I’m raving about greens, you know I mean business. There’s so much they have to offer like improving your digestion and assisting in detoxing your body. Greens are an excellent way to cleanse and reset your systems. Adding a green drink regimen even offers muscle toning, weight loss, and weight maintenance bonuses. That’s a pretty impressive list for a few fruits and veggies in a blender, right? Where Do I Begin with Green Drinks? So what greens are the best to use in your green drinks? How do you choose the healthiest ingredients that will produce low-sugar drinks? Let’s take a look at some of my favorite recommendations: Kale may be one of those foods your taste buds have to learn to love, but you just can't deny the reasons your body will love it. It’s a superfood for good reason. Loaded with calcium, potassium, iron, protein, and more, you can't deny its healthy resume. Low in calories and fat while rich in vitamins A, C, and B6? YES, please! And if you haven’t been to my bone broth diet recipe section yet, you’re going to love the green soups you’ll find here. Spinach is always a great choice for any green drink you want to throw together. The soft, mild-flavored leaves of spinach hold a nutritional dose of protein, fiber, calcium, and vitamins A, B6, and C, to name a few. It can be easily found during all seasons and works well in any recipe; like one of my favorite bone broth diet soup recipes for Egg Drop Soup. Swiss Chard is one of the easiest greens to work with when making a green drink in your blender. Its soft leaves are packed with nutrients such as iron, calcium, and vitamins A, C, and K. And if you just can’t seem to get in the spirit of kale, you may love swiss chard’s ever-so-slightly salted taste. Arugula isn’t just for salads anymore. It makes a fantastic addition to your healthy low-sugar drinks. You can even substitute it for spinach when you want to mix up those ingredients in your smoothie cleanse now and then. It’s high in nutrients, including fiber, calcium, beta-carotene, and protein, and is a nutritious option for your green drink recipes. Celery. Yum. No matter what you pair with it, it’s always a refreshing choice. That’s why it should be no surprise that it's on my healthy and favorite list of greens. Celery can help regulate the alkaline balance of your body and support good digestion. It  can also reduce inflammation. But what you may not have known about is its soothing properties. Celery can have a calming effect on your nervous system. Yep, you read that right. So, the next time you’re feeling a bit stressed out, toss a few stalks in the blender and whip up a new celery smoothie cleanse concoction. It’s a refreshing way to cleanse and reset. Here’s a delicious suggestion to help kick off your green drink collection: Cucumber Celery Green Juice A refreshing, low-sugar drink to try while detoxing is my Cucumber Celery Green Juice. While best on an empty stomach so your body can take full advantage of nutrient absorption, it’s yummy enough for any time of day. Prep time: 5 min | Serving size: 1-2 Ingredients: 1 apple, halved 1 lemon, peeled 2 cucumbers 10 stalks of celery 5 kale leaves Directions: Use your juicer for all your ingredients, then serve and drink immediately. Broccoli is always a great choice when it comes to adding healthy greens to your daily diet. But whipping up a delicious green drink? Not always one to be chosen for the smoothie list, is it? It’s a shame too, because broccoli is loaded with fiber and vitamins A, C, and K. So, here are a few helpful tips to trying it out in your next smoothie recipe: Don’t use more than one cup of broccoli – your blender will thank you for it. Off-set the slight bitterness of your broccoli by choosing a few bold fruits to level the playing field. I’m betting you’ll be pleasantly surprised and even come up with a few new green drink recipes to share with me! For now, here’s one to get you started: The Whole 8 Green Broccoli Smoothie Prep time: 5-8 minutes Ingredients: 1 cup of broccoli florets 1 banana (frozen suggested) 1 apple 1/3 cup of pineapple (frozen suggested) ½ cup of almond milk Juice of ½ a lemon 2 tsp honey (if desired) A dash of vanilla extract (if desired) Directions: Use a powerful blender or divide up your cup of florets when blending. Combine your ingredients and blend until smooth. You may choose to add in more almond milk to blend to your preferred consistency. Add in the honey and/or vanilla if your broccoli smoothie is still a bit too bitter for your liking. Just remember, creating a low-sugar drink is always the healthiest route to take. The Powers of Fiber Fiber is just one of the many can’t-argue-with reasons to get on board with greens. Let’s take a look at a few undeniable fiber facts: The amount of fiber in greens is what helps keep you feeling full and satisfied. If your stomach is full, you're not likely to sit and snack or get cravings for unhealthy treats. So, don’t be shy and pile those greens on your plate or in a green drink whenever you can! Fiber helps regulate your cholesterol. Fiber keeps you regular. It can reduce the amount of blood sugar highs and lows you experience. Fiber supports a healthy digestive system. The Amazing Green Tea Green tea offers many incredible health benefits; most of which are similar to the health benefits the bone broth diet offers. It is rich in polyphenols; known for their inflammation reduction and ability to fight off cancer. It has roughly eight to ten times the amount that you'll find in your fruits and veggies. Green tea also contains catechin; natural antioxidants that help protect your cells from damage. Together, they bring you benefits such as: Slowing down the signs of aging. Helps protect against various diseases. Helps protect against free radicals. Guards molecules and cells against damage. Supports brain health — studies have shown reduced risks of Alzheimer’s. Helps keep your tummy slimmed down by burning fat. EGCG can reduce your risk of cancers such as: Ovarian Breast Lung Prostate Skin Pancreatic Stomach  Have you heard that green tea can help you improve your dental hygiene too? This super green drink can kill off bacteria that can lead to bad breath, cavities, and even plaque build-up. Pretty powerful, right? And speaking of power, you'll have a nice boost of energy without the added caffeine or sugar! It’s the perfect drink to pair with your bone broth diet or any meal plan you may be considering to cleanse and reset your body. . Now if you’re looking to get a bit creative with your low-sugar drinks, try out this delicious green tea with a twist: Turmeric Green Tea Smoothie A fabulous vegan and gluten-free low-sugar drink to try is the Turmeric Green Tea Smoothie. Turmeric is known for its anti-inflammatory properties, so this nutritious drink is both healing and refreshing. Prep time: 5 min | Serving size: 1 Ingredients: ½ tsp of matcha green tea powder ½ tsp of turmeric 1 large banana 1 cup of fresh spinach leaves 1 cup of unsweetened almond milk 2 dates, pitted 7-10 ice cubes (this will depend on your preferred thickness) Directions: Place all of your ingredients into your blender and blend until smooth. Protein Powder Don’t forget to add in a little protein when your green drink recipes may fall short of a beneficial amount. Although some of you may feel a drink high in protein will cause you to bulk up or pack on more weight, there’s more to it. If you’re switching to a meal replacement plan, you’ll want to ensure you’re still getting a sufficient amount of protein in your smoothies or low-sugar drinks of choice. Following my bone broth diet will ensure you’re getting your needed protein, but if not, then consider adding it to your drinks. Protein helps your body heal, curbs your cravings, and even works to boost your metabolism. Smoothie Cleanses: Helpful or Harmful?

by Dr. Kellyann on Oct 16 2019
It seems the chatter of cleanses is everywhere. With so many available today, it can be tough to tell which option is beneficial to the body and mind and will provide valid results. In order to know if smoothie cleanses are a safe, healthy, and effective option, we need to examine them carefully. On the surface, "smoothie cleanse” certainly sounds healthy. Besides, everyone says it helps boost energy and lose inches, right? But do they all? Is a Smoothie Cleanse Healthy? Don’t let the fruits and veggies fool you. Not all smoothies are created equal. Your typical smoothie cleanse is loaded with sugar and that abundance of sugar can send your cells into disarray. One cleanse in particular contains up to 50 grams of sugar from fruit per drink. Their plan’s daily recommendation is six drinks per day to see results. A quick calculation tells me this doesn’t sound like it will do much to help you cleanse and reset or lose weight. Sugar can do a tremendous amount of damage to your body. More often than not, a smoothie won’t have the cleansing or healing power you are led to believe. In fact, you can pretty much expect the opposite. Here’s how it works: sugar is consumed, then reacts with fats or proteins in your body. They end up forming advanced glycation end products, or AGEs. AGEs are destructive compounds and are responsible for causing inflammation throughout your body and can stiffen your tissues. Studies have found that AGEs can be linked to an overwhelming number of health issues, including: Alzheimer’s disease Premature aging of the skin, including wrinkles Diabetes Considerable increase in the risk of cancer and metastasis A smoothie cleanse high in sugar content may also shorten your telomeres; the tips found on the ends of our chromosomes. What does this mean for you? Simply put, the shorter the telomeres, the more susceptible your body will be to various diseases. Shorter telomeres are also linked to your body aging more rapidly. The smoothie cleanse from your favorite shop just became your body’s worst nightmare, didn’t it? The lesson to be learned here? Beware of any high sugar content smoothie cleanse claiming to be something it’s not. They’ll wreak havoc on your body instead of rejuvenating it. Why My Smoothie Cleanse IS Healthy for You My original goal was to create a fast-acting cleanse for myself. One that was healthy and rich in the essentials I needed to heal my body at a time when it was failing. What I walked away with was a five-day cleanse and reset that gave me back my physical and mental health, energy, and radiance. I needed to reset my body. I carefully selected foods that would not only cleanse and reset my cells but charge them back up so I could feel like me again. By removing the excess sugar and processed foods from my diet, I gave my unhappy gut some time off from the abuse it was taking. I loaded up on the right smoothies, juices, and soups with: Greens rich in phytonutrients Collagen and bone broth, for their abundance of nutrients Clean protein A variety of healthy fats I restored all that my body had been deprived of and felt revitalized. Can a Smoothie Cleanse Help You Lose Weight? Just because it calls itself a fruit smoothie cleanse doesn’t necessarily mean it’s good for you. If it’s loaded with some serious sugar, it’s not going to heal your body. It’s just that simple. Do I even need to mention the pounds you’ll be adding on with all that sugar? On my cleanse and reset, I allow a limited amount of sugar and encourage clean protein. You won’t have to worry about gaining weight instead of shedding it. I even provide you with lists of “yes” foods, satisfying recipes, and a smoothie cleanse plan that genuinely helps you burn fat and slim down.  A Better way to Smoothie Cleanse If you've tried smoothie cleanses with little to less-than-stellar results, I hope this has shed light on why. Instead of loading your body with so much sugar, my smoothie cleanse combines phytonutrients from greens, healthy fats, and clean protein from your favorites and mine - collagen and bone broth. Together they provide protection, removal of toxins, healing, and more. What Can You Eat on a Smoothie Cleanse? A smoothie cleanse that is truly beneficial and will help cleanse and reset your body should be loaded with: Soups with a bone broth base: Provides your body with amino acids Fights inflammation, starting with your gut to combat illness and disease throughout your body Restores, heals, and repairs Rich in glycine Hydrolyzed collagen: The structural protein that is the “glue” to hold it all together Provides a healthy glow and returns skin’s firmness Replenishes hair and nails Promotes strong bones Helps slim unwanted belly fat Fresh fruits and vegetables Rich in phytochemicals to flush toxins from your body and restore energy and radiance Rich in fiber to promote a healthy GI tract free from high blood sugar, bloating, and constipation Curb your cravings and hunger to support weight loss Smoothies with Superpowers While there is a wide range of fruits and veggies you can eat on your smoothie cleanse, a few, in particular, possess superpowers. You’ll want to make sure you load up on these superfoods. Among them are: Celery: loaded with luteolin and apigenin to fight cancer Beets: contain betalains to fight cancers and inflammation Citrus fruits: filled with hesperidin to promote blood vessel health Raspberries: provide the highest amount of ellagic acid; lowers cholesterol and fights cancers Cruciferous vegetables: high in glucosinolates which fight various cancers. Among them are: Kale Collard greens Radishes Watercress Wasabi Arugula Bok choy Broccoli Brussels sprouts If you’re ready to give me just five days, I’ll walk you through my Cleanse and Reset. You’ll enjoy smoothies that will work for you, not against you, and gut-healing soups and juices that actually cleanse. With flexible options and a variety of choices, there’s no reason not to start your journey to health and happiness today! Keep thinking Big and living BOLD!
The Truth About Bloating

The Truth About Bloating

by Dr. Kellyann on Oct 14 2019
Bloating. It’s that awful feeling of a swollen tummy, backed up gut, and discomfort that makes you want to crawl back into bed. But why now? You’ve decided to lead a healthier lifestyle. You’ve started your cleanse, yet you’re left with this feeling of dread rather than joy. So, where did you go wrong? The good news is, you didn’t. Unfortunately, bloating can be a very normal and natural part of the cleanse and reset process. So, pat yourself on the back for taking this step in your health journey and get ready for a crash course in bloating. The Good, the Bad, and the Bloating If it’s your first cleanse, you may be feeling a bit frustrated with a side of puffiness. How could making a healthy lifestyle decision leave you with such a gassy, sluggish, and sometimes painful feeling? You may be a bit surprised to hear the answer. Your recent, and possibly sudden, change in diet could be the culprit. While fruits and veggies are the way to a healthier you, increasing your intake of these nutritious foods can sometimes lead to bloating. Just as your taste buds may need time to adjust to their new array of foods, your digestive system may need a few days of adjusting as well. A sudden influx of greens, for example, can cause somewhat of a shock to your system. The added fiber you are ingesting can lead to the added gas and bloating you’re experiencing. You may also want to look at your fat to fruit ratio, as well as the order you are eating them in. You’re scratching your head right now, aren’t you? Let me explain. Fruit digests more quickly than fat. When you fill your stomach with a high-fat snack or meal, especially followed by fruit, it causes a bit of a traffic jam in your intestines. While fats wait in line to be digested, the fruit is now sitting there; fermenting. And now we’ve created an unhappy gut. Your body’s reaction? Bloating. Banishing the Bloat So, what can you do to get rid of that unwelcomed balloon in your belly? Decrease your intake of fruits and vegetables temporarily. This will give your system time to adjust to your new cleanse, as well as your new menu. Cut back on any fiber supplements you may be taking. Chances are, you’re getting a pretty good amount of fiber at the moment, so start off small and gradually increase. Begin to work your way back up to your desired level of fruits and veggies. Giving your system time to adjust should help cut down on those not-so-pleasant symptoms of bloating you’ve been experiencing. If you notice the feeling of bursting at your seems tends to appear after eating certain foods, experiment a bit: Eat or drink a smaller portion at a time. Try a mix of different foods, in your green smoothies for instance, to narrow down which of them may be causing your gut’s unhappiness. Limit your fat intake. Yes, that includes healthy fats. Give your system plenty of time to digest one snack before mixing in another; like your green drinks followed by a bowl of fruit. Five-Day Cleanse and Reset to the Rescue As with all gut-related issues, when your gut is unhappy, it remains inflamed and slows your metabolism. The rest of your body isn’t getting the full amounts of nutrients needed to cleanse and reset.  To help get your system running smoothly again, I’ve created a five-day cleanse and reset plan that will  kick those unwelcomed feelings of discomfort to the curb. You’ll melt away stubborn belly fat, brighten and tone your skin, and rid your system of those toxins that have kept you feeling sluggish and blue. With my help, you’ll replenish your body with every major nutrient crucial to restoring your health. I’ve even provided the tools and recipes to make this the easiest five-day cleanse and reset possible.  Be sure to take note of any stubborn symptoms with particular foods. You may actually have a sensitivity to some foods you weren’t aware of, causing you to bloat. Some have even found they have fructose malabsorption; a rare but unpleasant condition. Take this time to really get to know your body and how it responds to various foods. It will make your cleanse a much more enjoyable experience!  Ready to get rid of the bloat and restore your body to its happy, healthy state? My Cleanse and Reset and Keto: A Perfect Pair

by Dr. Kellyann on Oct 11 2019
Are you ready to get your health back on track? Are you tired of feeling drained and unmotivated every day? I bet you’d like to get rid of those fine lines, dull skin tone, and slim down your tummy too. What if I told you it was possible to see phenomenal results that will leave you feeling rejuvenated with a quick five-day cleanse? In just five days, I can help you cleanse and reset your body and mind, leaving you feeling better than ever. The Cleanse and Reset When my body quit on me a few years ago, I knew it was time to take action. I had been ignoring all the signs, and my body had taken enough. In my need for immediate health and wellness emerged a five-day cleanse that restored and reset me back to my old self. I felt refreshed. Slimmer. Happier. And you can too.  How It Works The cleanse and reset doesn’t require you to give everything up to reset your body in this short timeframe. Instead of fasting, you’ll limit yourself to small meals consisting of green smoothies, shakes, and select soups that support the cleanse. And by slashing your carb intake, you’re going to do some serious fat-burning. Pairing the Five-Day Cleanse with Your Keto Cleanse A keto lifestyle restricts your carb intake to the bare minimum to burn fat quickly. Think of it as consuming more fat to burn more fat. A keto cleanse also helps you reduce and balance your blood sugar and insulin levels. Drastically cutting back on the number of carbs you consume tells your body to burn ketone bodies; a type of fat, instead of burning sugar, to provide you with energy. This is also known as being in a state of ketosis. Ketosis helps you melt away that belly fat faster than you can imagine. With this in mind, it makes for a fantastic one-day jump-start to your five-day cleanse. You’ll start burning fat immediately, then flow right into day one of your five-day cleanse and reset. I call this the “Keto Push," but it's not required to see the amazing results you’ll get with my cleanse and reset. Modifying Keto Already working on a keto cleanse? No problem! My five-day cleanse allows you to make modifications easily. I recommend you start off with the keto push, then follow my cleanse and reset plan with keto-friendly ingredients. I’ve even supplied a ton of delicious recipes within the Cleanse and Reset book, so all you’ll have to do is leave out starchy vegetables and fruit. You’ll find that adapting the soups, smoothies, and shakes to fit your keto cleanse is no trouble at all. If you’re looking to revive your health, your happiness, and your skin, this is your chance. Imagine feeling completely restored by this time next week! It’s time to turn your health around and get you back on track. Ready to make this commitment with me? Let’s get started! What Can Five Days Do for You?

by Dr. Kellyann on Oct 07 2019
If you haven’t heard about my Cleanse and Reset, get ready for some exciting news. After experiencing my own urgent need for major cleanse and rejuvenation, I developed a five-day cleanse that reset my body and mind. Yep, just five days! Imagine starting out your cleansing week on a Monday morning, and by Friday, you're feeling lighter, healthier, and yes, even happier! AND…no need to cleanse through your weekend. Sounds like a winning plan, doesn’t it? What is a Cleanse? Let's clear up a misconception about cleansing. Not all cleanses will leave you feeling hungry, sluggish, and depleted. In fact, they shouldn’t. A cleanse should help you feel renewed and ready to take on the world. By pumping your body full of nutrients, you’ll help your body’s natural cleansing systems rid your cells of toxins. Your systems will be functioning at full capacity once again, leaving you feeling like you’ve just gotten a fresh start. Why a Five-Day Cleanse? Now, you’re probably thinking to yourself; there are so many cleanses out there. All seem to be of varying lengths and designs. So, which one is the best? My Cleanse and Reset Five-Day Cleanse was based on seeing a maximum weight reduction in most people within the first five days of any cleanse.  Sure, three days of cleansing is better than nothing, but you’re just ramping up into high gear by day three. It just isn't quite long enough to benefit from the impact a full five-day cleanse can offer your body. Around day three, most people are noticing some pretty amazing digestive changes. The uncomfortable bloat is finally disappearing, and you’ve already begun to get into this new eating groove after day two. By sticking around for days four and five, you are really feeling the benefits. Your body is regaining the energy it’s been lacking. Your belly is flatter. Your skin and hair are bouncing back to life. Even your mind is clear, and you're feeling at ease. You can always choose to extend your cleanse a day or two. You may also consider following your five-day cleanse with my 10-Day Belly Slimdown or Bone Broth diet. A Balanced Diet The Cleanse and Reset will help you get your body back on track, trim away belly fat, and ensure your body receives the proper balance of nutrients. Did you know that even with the best intentions, not all healthy eaters are getting a true, balanced diet? Through research, John Berardi, Ph.D., found that even athletes on healthy diets and routine exercise did not meet the recommended micro- and macronutrient intake. I designed my cleanse to help you feel great, not depleted; leaving you drained and right back where you started. I want you feeling young, vibrant, and sexy again. I had three goals in mind; rest, restore, and revitalize. You'll notice a difference as soon as the first day, but after a full five days, you’ll reap the rewards the Cleanse and Reset has to offer. If it can turn my health around, I know it can do the same for you. Keep thinking Big and living BOLD!

My 20 Favorite Low-Carb Foods

by Dr. Kellyann on Oct 04 2019
Let’s face it, there are so many undeniable benefits to eating healthy and leading a lifestyle of good choices. Your body rewards you for those conscious choices you make too. From radiant skin to a full head of healthy hair. Your systems are in check, and your heart, gut, and brain are at full happy-health capacity. If you aren’t quite there yet, maybe a peek at my favorite low-carb foods will give you the inspirational nudge you need. Living a Low-Carb Keto Lifestyle There are several similarities between the Keto Diet and a low-carb plan. Both offer your body wonderful benefits and help support weight loss. In fact, combined, they pack a powerful punch of just the right vitamins, nutrients, and benefits your body needs. Let’s take a closer look. The Keto Diet The Keto Diet is designed to help enhance your body’s fat-burning abilities. Believe it or not, with the Keto Diet you’ll want to eat more fat, lower your carb intake, and mix in a fair amount of protein.  While you may be wondering, why the increased fat, the benefits are quite amazing. Adding more (healthy) fat while on the Keto Diet helps reduce your cravings and hunger by stabilizing your blood sugar levels. Don’t believe me? Patients in various studies were able to shed pounds and lower their cholesterol levels while on the Keto Diet. Research has also shown patients who were on a low-carb Keto Diet not only shed pounds, but they also improved their blood sugar levels. Low-carb diets such as Keto have proven to be even more effective than the average low-fat diets.  How Do I Get Started on a Keto Diet? - h2 Generally, you’ll want your healthy fat calories to make up roughly sixty to seventy percent of your daily caloric intake.  Twenty-five to thirty-five percent should come from protein intake, while carbs should only account for about five to ten percent of your calorie intake. And don’t forget that bone broth is an excellent source of protein. Not only that, bone broth helps you out when you’re adjusting to low-carb foods. Some of these benefits include helping with: Headaches Dizziness Sluggishness Nausea Oh, the wonders of sipping on bone broth! Health, beauty, and symptom-free benefits. Benefits of a Keto Diet Choosing a Keto Diet lifestyle may have benefits you haven’t even thought of. Did you know it can help enhance your mood and even protect the health of your brain? The Keto Low-Carb lifestyle promotes healthy weight loss by boosting your metabolism. It has even been credited with improving insulin levels in people with diabetes.  And what if I told you low-carb options help you improve your athletic endurance and performance as well? The Keto Diet can burn fat even while you’re in a resting state. Do you know of anything that can beat that? Benefits of the Low-Carb Lifestyle So how does it work? Sticking to low-carb foods forces your body to find its energy from stored fat. Think of it along the lines of fasting. Your body won’t be using food to create energy. While insulin and blood sugar levels remain low, sipping on my Keto Bone Broth will provide your body small amounts of carbs and calories, without causing these levels to spike. See what I mean about your body thinking it’s fasting? You’ll also enjoy increased energy levels, clear, glowing skin, and shedding those unwanted pounds. The Benefits of Brain Health Insulin Resistance Did you know going low-carb even has amazing brain benefits? While I mentioned insulin resistance before, let’s recap. Shoveling large amounts of carbs into your body wreaks havoc on your blood sugar levels. This causes your body to work overtime, producing an abundance of insulin. If you continue this way, your cells begin to build up a resistance to insulin. Eventually, your cells will reject the glucose and insulin being delivered. So, what makes this so scary? Diabetes. Obesity. Poor brain health. Insulin resistance lowers the blood sugar throughout your brain, including those areas susceptible to Alzheimer’s disease. Got your attention, didn’t I?  Epilepsy Let’s take a quick history break. In 1921, Dr. Russell Wilder created the Keto Diet to help treat epilepsy in children who were drug-resistant. Since most of the Keto Diet calories come from fat, it created an anti-seizure effect and benefit in these children. Pretty strong argument for brain health, wouldn’t you agree? So, what are my favorite low-carb foods to promote brain health and all-around health in general?  My 20 Favorite Low-Carb Options Coconut oil Coconut oil is a very healthy fat and provides metabolism benefits from medium-chain fatty acids. In other words, coconut oil helps increase your body’s fat-burning ability, reduces your appetite, and helps you lose unwanted belly fat. It’s a great cooking substitution for those of you who tend to grab the butter when you cook. Extra Virgin Olive Oil Extra Virgin Olive Oil is not only deemed the healthiest fat; it is also an antioxidant powerhouse. Full of anti-inflammatory compounds, it is known to help support heart health. Drizzle this healthy oil on your salads or use to sauté in place of that stick of butter. Chicken Chicken provides your body with an excellent amount of protein and nutrients. It makes a great addition to any low-carb recipes. If you’re on the low-carb Keto diet, you may want to choose the thighs or wings in order to fulfill your fat content intake. Turkey Add turkey to any of your low-carb recipes. You’ll definitely want to try my Slow-Cooker Low-Carb White Chicken Chili recipe. It’s super simple to whip up and leaves you full without the heavy feeling. Leafy Greens and Other Favorite Vegetables Did you know those dark leafy greens may help protect you against certain cancers? Rich in phytonutrients, spinach and broccoli make excellent low-carb food options. Don’t forget to add in collard greens and kale. You’ll also reap the benefits of: Vitamin C Vitamin K Vitamin A Improved bone health Improved eyesight Improve skin elasticity Reduced fine lines and wrinkles Improved heart health Improved brain function Increase in iron, benefiting the oxygen in your blood Mushrooms Mushrooms are another favorite of mine and are high in B vitamins, extremely low in carbs, and offer a great source of potassium. One of my favorite low-carb foods is my Wild Mushroom Soup, full of goodness for any time of year!    Delicious Cream of Wild Mushroom Soup Prep Time: 10 Minutes • Cook Time: 45 Minutes Makes eight 1-cup servings • Portions: 1 vegetable, 1/2 fat Ingredients Needed: 2 teaspoons ghee 1 cup finely chopped yellow onion 1/2 cup chopped celery 1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper 1 large clove garlic 6 ounces shiitake mushrooms, wiped clean (about 2 cups) 9 ounces cremini mushrooms, wiped clean (about 3 cups), divided 6 ounces white mushrooms, wiped clean (about 2 cups) 2 teaspoons fresh thyme or 1 teaspoon dried 1 teaspoon Celtic or pink Himalayan salt 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper 6 cups Chicken Bone Broth or Beef Bone Broth 2/3 cup coconut milk  Directions: On medium-high heat, melt the ghee in a large pot. Add in the onion, celery, and red pepper. Cook while stirring frequently for approximately 4 minutes (or until your vegetables are soft). Add in your garlic and cook for roughly 30 seconds. Add in the shiitake mushrooms, 6 ounces (about 2 cups) of cremini, white mushrooms, thyme, salt, and black pepper. Continue to cook while stirring (for 7 to 10 minutes). The mushrooms should give off a liquid and begin to brown. Add in your broth and bring everything to a boil. Immediately reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer, uncovered. Stir occasionally, for about 15 minutes (or until the mushrooms are soft). Remove from the heat and add in the coconut milk and the remaining 3 ounces cremini mushrooms. Puree with a handheld immersion blender or in multiple batches in your blender or food processor. Return the mix to your pot and let it simmer for approximately 10 minutes. Season to your taste and serve! What vegetables are low-carb? Don’t forget to keep filling your body with a variety of vegetables. In order to metabolize your food and continue burning energy, you’ll need these vegetables for their nutrients. You’ll also be choosing foods packed with antioxidants, anti-inflammatories, and fiber.  Onions Onions not only provide amazing flavor to any recipe; they are also high in fiber and packed full of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. Bell peppers Bell peppers are also incredibly high in fiber, carotene antioxidants, and Vitamin C. Asparagus Add asparagus to any low-carb diet meal.  Asparagus is rich in carotene antioxidants, folate, vitamin C, vitamin K, and fiber.  It is also one of the higher protein content veggies.   Carrots  Celery Carrots and celery are always a nutritious, low-carb addition to my bone broth or any healthy recipe. Eggplant  Eggplant is another favorite low-carb option and very high in fiber. If you’re an eggplant fan or need a reason to become one, try out this mouth-watering recipe:  Baba Ghanoush Eggplant Spread Prep time: 10 min • Cook time: 30 min • Yield: about 2 cups Ingredients Needed: 1 medium eggplant or about 4 Chinese eggplants ¼ cup tahini 1 ½ teaspoons salt Juice of ½ lemon, about 2 tablespoons or more 2 small cloves garlic 1 teaspoon cumin ¼ cup parsley leaves Directions: Preheat your oven to 450º F and line your baking pan with parchment paper. Prick the eggplants with a fork and bake for 20 to 30 minutes. It should be very soft and tender. When the eggplant has cooled, scrape out the flesh. You should have 1 ¾ to 2 cups. Add all the ingredients into your food processor and pulse until fully blended. Add your favorite seasonings to taste and serve.  If you’re a pasta lover, you may be wondering how you’ll survive a low-carb lifestyle without it. Trust me. These healthy alternatives are about to become your new favorite go-to foods!  Zucchini  Zucchini is a fabulously low-carb veggie with amazing pasta-substitute abilities! Making zucchini noodles, or zoodles, is just as fun as it is delicious. I even add yellow squash to the mix. Sauté with a bit of minced garlic, a touch of that healthy virgin olive oil, and you’ll have the perfect pasta substitute in no time. Puree your own low-carb tomato sauce and you’ll be in heaven. Need to cut back on your rice intake? No problem! In a matter of minutes, you’ll be enjoying a healthy, low-carb substitute. Cauliflower Using cauliflower florets sprinkled with your seasonings of choice, you’ll wonder why you’ve been filling up on rice this whole time. Here’s one of my favorite recipes for a fried rice version: Cauliflower “Fried Rice” Prep Time: 5 minutes • Cook Time: 10 minutes • Yield: 4 servings Ingredients Needed: 1 medium head cauliflower, cut into florets (about 4 cups) 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil 4 scallions, very thinly sliced (whites and greens kept separate) 1 large carrot, finely chopped 2 cloves garlic, minced 2 eggs, beaten 3 tablespoons coconut aminos 1⁄2 cup mung bean sprouts Directions: Using your food processor, pulse the cauliflower florets until they resemble small grains of rice. In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium heat. Add in your scallion whites, carrots, and garlic. Stir-fry until fragrant (approximately 5 minutes). Add in the cauliflower and cook while stirring constantly until your cauliflower is tender. Don’t let it get mushy! This should only take about 5 minutes. Move the cauliflower mixture to the sides, while leaving the center clear. Add in the eggs and scramble until fully cooked (approximately 2 minutes). Stir everything together, then add in and stir the coconut aminos, scallion greens, and sprouts. Serve immediately and enjoy!  Now that I’ve loaded you up on low-carb diet faves, you’re ready to kick off your healthier lifestyle change. You’ll never run out of ideas with the endless low-carb meals and dessert recipes at your fingertips. Ready for a healthy start? What the Cleanse and Reset Did for Me

by Dr. Kellyann on Oct 02 2019
Are you looking for a way to get back to the healthy, more energetic you that you used to be? I want you to know you're not alone. We all have busy lives; trying to juggle too many things at once, and sometimes our own health suffers. We become too busy to exercise, to get the proper amount of sleep, and to stick to a healthy diet when grabbing food on the go is so much more convenient. Trust me; I've been there too. In fact, the Cleanse and Reset was a plan I developed for myself to help get me back on track. The results were astonishing, and I knew I just had to share them. The Day I Crashed It was 2017, and I was running myself ragged. I was jumping from interviews to patients and squeezing everything else in between. I was neglecting my body and what it was trying to tell me. Long story short, my body had had it with the abuse. I found myself staring up at one of the flight attendants during another weekly coast-to-coast commute. As I drifted in and out, I remember wondering why I had been ignoring all the signs.  A Need to Cleanse and Reset When I took stock of what led up to that moment, I realized I hadn't felt myself for quite some time. Physically. Mentally. Emotionally. I was utterly exhausted and still pushing myself. I was running in so many different directions that I forgot to follow my own routines. My body was starved for rest and my usual healthy lifestyle, but I hadn't been listening. Everything about me was out of whack. I knew I needed something to cleanse and reset my hormones, metabolism, and overall health and wellness. Cleansing My Way Back to “ME” I had a dire need to create a quick, effective, low-stress cleanse to restore my body and mind. I was done feeling fatigued, putting on more weight, and seeing the dark circles and tired lines staring back at me in the mirror. I compiled everything I knew about cleansing my system, boosting my energy, getting rid of belly fat, and restoring a healthy glow to my skin. I began experimenting to find the cleanse that would restore my health. And you know what? I felt a change within days!  The Reset Button I had found a way to jump-start my body back on the right course. My tummy was already slimming. I could feel my usual perky self emerging. And that dreadful sluggish feeling I felt from the weight of all the stress was quickly lifting. I was shedding the unhealthy lifestyle I had somehow let myself get sucked into and emerging a restored ME! So, let me ask you — is your body trying to tell you something? Have you been ignoring all the signs and pushing yourself towards the edge? I challenge you to give me five days to show you how my Cleanse and Reset can restore the real you. In just five short days, you’ll feel better, look better, and be better. Let me show you how! Keep thinking Big and living BOLD!

Top 10 Liver Cleansing Foods

by Dr. Kellyann on Sep 30 2019
Committing yourself to a healthier lifestyle is a huge and commendable step. We all have different reasons for choosing to create a better, healthier version of ourselves. So, where do you start? Which changes to your daily diet should you make? What goals should you set for yourself? What do you want to improve most about your overall health? And how will you set out a course that you are sure to follow? After all, you want to make a lifestyle change, not set out on another short-lived diet, right? Let’s start with a cleanse that will help you rid your body of old habits and harmful toxins, so you can start fresh. How do you choose the best starting point? Between cleanses, detox diets, and bone broth fasting, you may be a little overwhelmed with information. We’ll begin with the basics of how to cleanse your body the right way.  What’s the difference between a detox and a cleanse? Now some of you are probably scratching your head and wondering what the real difference is. While most people tend to use the two words interchangeably, and there are indeed several similarities, there are also several differences worth noting. A detox and cleanse both aim to rid your body of impurities. They’re beneficial to your health and help your body function at its fullest potential. In a nutshell, a cleanse focuses in on ridding toxins from your digestive tract. A detox helps support your body’s natural detoxification process. What are toxins? That leads us to our next biology tidbit: What is a toxin?  To put it simply, a toxin is any particle that stays inside your body and causes harm. Harmful effects include inflammation, irritating your cells, and causing disruption to the normal, healthy functions of your body. Without the help of a cleanse or regular cleansing foods in your diet, you may experience symptoms such as: Anxiety Depression Joint pain Inflammation Sluggishness Headaches Digestive issues  Can the body remove toxins naturally? Your body can do many miraculous things, but it can’t run the show solo forever! Your body does have a set of systems in place to help get rid of toxins naturally. It works hard to protect your cells from damage, while the cells themselves work to keep themselves cleansed. It's an impressive setup, but you do need to do your part in helping your body stay healthy and supporting its efforts. The cells in your body are naturally generating free radicals all the time. For you to function at your best and look healthy and rested, your body needs to cleanse to get rid of the waste. A steady diet of healthy cleansing foods is one way to support its needs to cleanse and detox. Without proper elimination of toxins from your body, you could put yourself at risk for several health issues, including: Various disease and illness Certain cancers, such as breast cancer Impaired cognitive function Loss of memory Extreme fatigue Fine lines and wrinkles Pain and inflammation Stubborn belly fat (yep…toxins store themselves in your body fat) What are fat-soluble toxins? Let's take a moment to explore the trouble with fat-soluble toxins. Did you know that when you start to lose weight, these toxins can be released into your system? Scary thought, right? In fact, it’s highly likely to happen during extreme and rapid weight loss. This is only one of many reasons why a quick-fix diet is not a healthy way to go. What toxins do I need to avoid? Toxins, unfortunately, are a part of our daily lives. Although avoiding all of them just isn’t practical, limiting your exposure to them is at least doable. Be aware of your surroundings; the air quality in your home or work environment. The skincare regimen you choose. It all adds up. In addition to doing your best to reduce your daily exposure to harmful toxins, you can also change your eating habits to boost liver cleansing. Why is it Important to Cleanse the Liver? Your liver plays an enormous role in the overall health of your body. It is ultimately responsible for filtering, processing, and breaking down the matter that passes through your body. It has a tremendous amount of responsibility, including: Filtering your blood Helping your blood clot Breaking down various chemicals and substances, such as alcohol and drugs you put into your body Produces glucose and bile; substances your body needs to remain strong and healthy Why boost liver cleansing efforts? If your liver becomes overloaded with toxins and pollutants, its natural ability to cleanse will slow and become less effective. Want to support your liver and help it take care of your body? Lifestyle changes such as adding a periodic cleanse, adding cleansing foods to your daily routine, and setting goals to work towards a healthier you will help boost liver cleansing. Make a conscious decision to avoid filling your body with: Alcohol Drugs Processed foods Fried foods The best liver cleansing foods and beverages. What are the best cleansing foods and beverages to help boost liver cleansing? I’m glad you asked because I have some delicious suggestions for you to try. If these yummy cleansing foods aren’t already a part of your regular diet, get that shopping list out and start adding to it! Let’s start with some top cleansing foods and beverages that are considered superfoods in their ability to boost liver cleansing. Cleanse your liver with turmeric. A fragrant cooking spice, powerful anti-inflammatory, and long-time healing agent, turmeric has the natural ability to boost liver cleansing. This cleansing superfood contains antioxidants and supports enzymes that are responsible for cleansing your liver of toxins. Did I mention it’s crushing this task, all while helping to repair the cells in your liver? Impressive, isn’t it? Eat cruciferous vegetables to cleanse your liver  These super veggies include favorites like broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, and kale. They make up a significant source of glutathione; responsible for triggering toxin cleansing enzymes which boost liver cleansing abilities. Choosing to add a variety of cruciferous vegetables to your diet will help increase glucosinolate in your body. This increase can help flush out harmful carcinogens and toxins before they cause or increase damage. Beetroot is excellent for cleansing your liver. If you haven’t heard this from me before, beetroot is a must on your list of cleansing foods. Where do I even begin? Full of incredible antioxidants, nutrients, vitamins, and nitrates, beetroot is a superfood you’ve got to get on board with for your cleanse. It contains natural cleansers like fiber and vitamin C, which support a healthy digestive system. They also work hard to cleanse your blood by increasing your oxygen. If that wasn’t impressive enough, beetroots are also credited with:        Stimulating the flow of bile in your liver Boosting enzyme activity Breaking down toxic waste to speed up its excretion  Drink tea to cleanse your liver. Tea has been used for so many health reasons for centuries. Sleep. Mental health. General health. And now there are studies which have shown tea’s ability to boost liver cleansing. A study conducted in Japan showed impressive results from those who drank five to ten cups of green tea daily. Results showed improved blood markers of improved liver health. Catechin, a plant antioxidant found in green tea, is believed to be the reason for this remarkable outcome. Add garlic to your meals to cleanse your liver. Who doesn’t love a little (or a lot) of garlic in their diet? Loaded with sulphur, it activates the liver enzymes that are responsible for helping your body rid itself of toxins. Garlic also contains high levels of selenium; an essential micronutrient that has shown to help boost the natural antioxidant enzyme levels in your liver. Selenium gives your liver the power to fight off damage caused by oxidative stress. Adding garlic is a simple way to boost liver cleansing efforts. Eat citrus fruits to cleanse your liver. Citrus fruits are loaded with Vitamin C which is great for cleansing your liver.  Vitamin C is responsible for stimulating your liver while aiding in turning toxic substances into those that can be more easily absorbed by water. Grapefruit is one citrus fruit that is particularly beneficial because it contains two primary antioxidants that help protect your liver from damage.    Along with these top superfoods, there are other cleansing foods I want you to add to your list as you work on your efforts to boost liver cleansing.  Carrots are excellent liver cleansing foods. Carrots are a great addition to your list of liver cleansing foods. These tasty little guys are incredibly high in plant-flavonoids and beta-carotene. These two are responsible for stimulating and supporting your liver's overall function and performance. Carrots also contain vitamin A, which is known to help prevent liver disease. Cleanse your liver with avocados. Avocados are always a win in my book for liver cleansing food. Not only are they perfect for helping to cleanse your arteries, but they also help your body naturally produce glutathione. You’ll recall that glutathione is the compound that supports your liver by helping it get rid of toxins. Stock up! There isn’t much that avocados don’t taste great with. Eat apples to cleanse your liver. You’ll never escape that old saying that an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Not only are they the perfect low-calorie snack, but they are also a great cleansing food to help you boost liver cleansing efforts. They contain high levels of pectin; a chemical that helps your body naturally cleanse itself by releasing toxins from your digestive tract. By reducing the number of toxins in your digestive tract, your liver can function at an optimal level. It can manage the toxin load, cleanse your liver, and ultimately be able to cleanse your entire body better. Who knew those little guys could do so much? Drink coffee to cleanse your liver. Yes, coffee. I know there are many of you out there wondering how in the world coffee made it so high onto a liver cleansing food list. Can you believe that your morning pick-me-up is not only great for keeping you awake, but for being able to play a role in helping to boost liver cleansing? What if I told you that studies have shown your cup of coffee is helping protect your liver from disease? And if your liver has already encountered some damage, coffee is still working to protect it from further health issues. Here’s what we’ve learned: In people with chronic liver disease, studies have shown that drinking coffee can lower your risk of cirrhosis, or permanent liver damage Drinking coffee is associated with lowering your risk of death if you already suffer from chronic liver disease Your daily coffee drinking habit may also be reducing your risk of developing a prevalent type of liver cancer Coffee may have a positive effect on health issues such as inflammation and liver disease Coffee may have the ability to prevent collagen and fat build-up, which are two primary markers seen in liver disease Drinking coffee reduces inflammation throughout your body while increasing levels of glutathione These results were seen when three or more cups a day were consumed. My favorite liver cleansing food is bone broth. Aside from the delicious taste and variety of recipes you'll find to incorporate it into your diet; it's always going to be my favorite way to cleanse. Packed full of collagen, my bone broth will provide your body with an array of amazing benefits. You'll free yourself from inflammation and leaky gut, and rid your liver of toxins. Bone broth will help you fight off that stubborn belly fat, and provide you with oh-so-many beauty bonuses. You'll see a healthier, more youthful glow, less fine lines and wrinkles, and have that shiny hair you've always wanted. Sound good? I bet you're glad I snuck in an eleventh cleansing food, huh?
