Best Foods for Healthy Skin To Reduce Fine Lines

by Dr. Kellyann on Feb 19 2020
The array of skin and beauty benefits that come from eating the right foods are incredible. From hydration to diminished fine lines, collagen-boosting foods will enhance your skin’s tone, texture, and appearance before your eyes. By choosing the proper foods to add to your daily routine, you’ll continue to support your body’s production of collagen, fill up on vitamins for skin renewal, and reap additional priceless rewards.   What You Should Know About Collagen Collagen is a protein naturally produced by your body. Collagen accounts for roughly 33% of your protein makeup, making it the most abundant in your body. It's responsible for keeping your skin looking radiant, plump, and healthy. Collagen is known for its role in your skin's elasticity and helps prevent the appearance of dreaded wrinkles and fine lines. Who wants to stare at those in the mirror anyway? Without this critical protein, your skin would be unable to "bounce back," leaving your skin thin, loose, and crepe-like. With that visual in mind, I don’t need to tell you how essential boosting your collagen level is, do I?   Supporting Your Skin Through Food Choices While there are a variety of vitamins for skin and supplements for skin available, nothing beats stimulating your body’s production of collagen through a healthy diet. And there’s no time like the present. Especially since your system slows down its natural production of the protein in your early twenties. But don’t panic; there are plenty of healthy options for you to take advantage of. Choosing the right foods, such as fruits and vegetables rich in essential nutrients, is vital in synthesizing collagen to achieve beautiful, age-defying skin.   So, what are the best foods to add to your diet to see fabulous skin results? First, let me encourage you to go fresh as often as possible. Fresh fruits and veggies are rich in phytochemicals that flush waste and toxins from your body. And we know this puts you on the fast track to young-looking skin. Here’s a look at some of my daily go-to choices and why you’ll want to add them to your list:   Lemons  Lemons help flush those harmful toxins and impurities out of your system. Lemon juice, especially first thing each morning in a hot cup of water, is a powerful cleansing food. Its ability to stimulate the liver promotes the removal of waste and toxins that bring health and aging concerns to your skin. Packed with vitamin C, lemons boost your immune system and produce glutathione to:     Improve your circulation   Decrease pain in patients suffering from peripheral artery disease   Fight autoimmune disease, cancers, diabetes, and rheumatoid arthritis   Reduce oxidative stress    Stimulate your metabolism   Veggies Let’s be honest, is there anything veggies aren’t suitable for? Your skin’s health ranks high on the vegetable list. A significant boost in collagen synthesis comes from select powerhouse vegetables, including:   Cruciferous Veggies:  Broccoli  Arugula  Radish Brussels sprouts  Cauliflower  Cabbage  Bok choy  Collard greens  Watercress    And don’t forget to add: Leafy greens: Spinach is perfect for protecting your delicate skin from free radical damage. Kale loads you up with calcium, potassium, iron, and protein. It’s also optimal for those green drinks, as it’s so low in calories while rich in vitamins for skin, including A, C, and B6. Arugula is another veggie powerhouse loaded with the right amounts of fiber, beta-carotene, calcium, and protein. Makes your mouth water for a greenie smoothie, doesn’t it? Red vegetables: Tomatoes and red peppers are packed with lycopene and work to increase your skin’s collagen levels Orange veggies: Be sure to fill up on carrots to restore collagen cells throughout your body that may have damage   Fruit When you fill your body with fruits low in sugar, high in antioxidants and vitamins for skin health, you will rejuvenate and heal it from the inside out. Be sure to add plenty of tropical fruits, apples, and oranges to your smoothies for large doses of age-defying nutrients. One of my go-to choices for improved skin health is berries. These little guys are full of antioxidants. Berries offer protection from free radicals while stimulating your body’s production of collagen. Alone, in smoothies, on a salad, or healthy dessert, they pair well with anything I’m whipping up!   Blending Fruits and Veggies Here’s a healthy little smoothie recipe that brings the best of both worlds together. It is loaded with a satisfying combination of fruits and vegetables, helping your skin look radiant, and that waistline will have you feeling sexy again! You’ll fill up on all the necessary vitamins for skin in one delicious drink.   The Whole 8 Green Broccoli Smoothie Ingredients: 1 banana, sliced 1 apple, diced          1/3 cup of pineapple 1 cup of broccoli florets ½ cup of almond milk ½ a lemon, juiced 2 tsp honey (optional) Splash of vanilla extract (optional)   Directions: In a powerful blender, slowly add in your florets. Add in fruit and additional ingredients and continue to blend until smooth. Add in extra almond milk to reach your desired consistency. Add in honey and vanilla to slightly sweeten if your smoothie is a bit too bitter for your preferred taste. Serve and enjoy!   More Skin-Friendly Foods Fruits and veggies aren’t the only fabulous foods that will bring back that sexy look and provide the nutrients and vitamins for skin you may be missing. While they do offer fantastic soup, smoothie, and juice making options, don’t limit yourself there. I have plenty of skin-enhancing recipes at your disposal. I even encourage you to step outside of your comfort zone and use my recipes to whip up a few versions of your own yummy skin healing recipes.   Garlic I can’t get enough of the aroma and flavor garlic adds to my dishes. And knowing how fabulous it is for my skin’s health makes it undeniably beneficial. Garlic has the power to repair and rebuild collagen damage while working to increase production with the assistance of lipoic acid, taurine, and sulfur.   Omega-Rich Animals Some fish, such as salmon, are known for their abundance of Omega-3. It provides an excellent source of skin cell protection. If you aren’t a big fish eater, you may want to reconsider. I’m willing to bet you’d love glancing in the mirror to see a youthful skin glow, increased elasticity, and even skin tone. Animals abundant in Omega-3 help target and relieve inflammation of the skin. This is game-changing for those of you who may be suffering skin irritations, including: Itchy, dehydrated skin Redness of skin Recurring rashes Eczema Psoriasis Acne breakouts   The Best Supplements for Skin People often ask me how I juggle an insanely busy schedule with the amount of time it usually takes to create all my tasty soups and smoothies. While I am a huge fan of batch prepping, when the time doesn’t permit an afternoon of blending and cooking, I turn to my list of top supplements for skin. Nobody wants skin that sags and wrinkles, am I right? It's crucial to fill your body with the best supplements for skin, even when you may feel short on time.    Collagen Powders The amino acids found in powdered collagen supplements are crucial in synthesizing collagen. Collagen peptides, or hydrolyzed collagen supplements for skin, are typically a powder form and sometimes combined with healthy foods for collagen stimulation. Many experimental studies have proven supplements for skin, such as collagen powder, have successful absorption rates; penetrating to the deepest skin layers. This is fantastic news for those of us who need quick, on-the-go options now and then. High-quality collagen powder shakes and smoothies offer the essential building blocks your skin needs to thrive.   Magnesium Known for its ability to help relieve stress (and who wouldn’t love that), magnesium makes a fabulous supplement for skin. Think about the last few times your stress and anxiety levels reached an all-time high. Did you suffer from acne breakouts, loss of healthy skin tone, or dark circles beneath your eyes? Stress really takes a toll on our skin, so instead of taking a beating, take your magnesium supplements for skin instead.   Omega-3 Fatty Acids Omega-3 fatty acids provide support to your skin’s lipid barrier. Omega-3 supplements for skin reduce inflammation, protect it from harmful sun exposure, and supports quick healing of your skin from wounds or scars. Omega-3 fatty acids work hard to strengthen your skin’s cell membranes while restoring elasticity.     Zinc Supplements Taking a zinc supplement for skin provides added strength while reducing your skin’s healing time. Zinc offers incredible antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. These benefits promote that radiant glow we are all after while targeting wrinkles and undesirable age spots. A zinc supplement for skin makes up for deficiencies that you may find link to your acne and rosacea concerns, so if this is you, it may be time to grab a bottle.   Silicon Another favorite supplement for skin known to promote collagen synthesis is silicon. Although you'll find silicon in a vast array of foods, it has a surprisingly low absorption rate. By using silicon supplements for skin, it works with the collagen you currently have to strengthen elasticity, smooth out skin texture, and improve your overall skin tone.  Not only does it act as a powerful supplement for skin, but it also supports strong nails and a healthy, full head of hair.    Choose Quality Supplements Safe and effective supplements are a must. Quality matters, so be aware of your supplement choices. The health of the supplement's animal source is essential, so opt for free-range, naturally fed diets for better results. A healthy animal source provides a higher quality hydrolyzed collagen, so grab the grass-fed supplements for skin when you can.   The Benefits of Vitamins for Skin Choosing proper foods will always provide you with remarkable skin benefits. Foods rich in various vitamins for skin health, reduce signs of aging, including: Sagging skin Dull skin tone Appearance of cellulite Fine lines and dark circles   Vitamin C: A Critical Vitamin for Skin Without proper amounts of vitamin C, your body is unable to synthesize collagen. Period. It’s one of the more essential vitamins for skin, so don't skimp. Besides, there are too many delicious food choices that provide you with vitamin C, so there’s just no excuse to neglect it.     Bone Broth for Everything Bone broth is what I often call my “liquid gold.” I could go on and on about the physical and mental benefits bone broth provides. And if you’ve been here before, you know how passionate I am about my bone broth! It’s no secret that bone broth is my go-to for everything skin, beauty, health, and weight loss related. Adding the broth to your daily diet floods your system with vital nutrients, antioxidants, amino acids, and vitamins for skin health and repair.      The Benefits of Collagen-Filled Bone Broth Packed full of collagen and a variety of essential vitamins for skin renewal, my delicious bone broth provides your body with an incredible list of health benefits. Bone broth targets the inflammation throughout your body, which poses various health concerns. Bone broth combats the toxins in your liver, the damaging effects of a leaky gut, and aches and pains throughout your muscles and joints. You'll also notice a healthy, young glow return to your skin, while fine lines and wrinkles begin to fade before your eyes. Even your hair will have a luxurious, healthy shine and feel full again. A pretty fantastic list of added benefits, right?   By filling your day with collagen-rich bone broth soups and smoothies, you’ll support your system by adding: Fiber Protein Gelatin Amino acids Vitamins   Not only will you love your skin, but you'll also notice:  An increase in energy level More restful sleep Heightened mood Lack of cravings A satisfied stomach Support for your tendons, blood vessels, and connective tissue   Bone Broth and Your Skin Your skin’s elasticity relies on your body’s ability to produce collagen. And when production decreases, it relies on you to help replenish it. The abundance of collagen in my wrinkle diminishing bone broth helps: Reduce undesirable fine lines Plump up sagging skin Restore your youthful glow Brighten and even out your skin tone   Collagen-rich bone broth even assists with additional skin concerns, including:  Eczema Acne Psoriasis Cellulite Just imagine the rewards your skin will enjoy from sipping on a cup of bone broth. You’ll help calm and heal irritations and bring back balance to your skin. So, what are you waiting for? Do I Suffer From Burnout?

by Dr. Kellyann on Feb 17 2020
Do you frequently find yourself feeling like you are drowning in a pool of overwhelming tasks and challenges? Does the very thought of socializing, or even getting out of bed bring you anxiety or moodiness? If you’re realizing that the little things in life have begun to turn into stressful challenges that seem out of your reach, it’s time to take action. How many times have you found yourself blaming lack of sleep or too many items on your to-do list for your blues? It may be time to honestly evaluate just how long you have been feeling down and pinpoint all the areas in your life that are suffering; physically, emotionally, and cognitively. By learning how you can recognize the various signs and symptoms of chronic stress and taking baby steps to reduce the harmful effects, you will slowly begin your journey back to health. If the constant pressure in your life has you feeling helpless, disillusioned, and utterly exhausted, you may be on the path to burnout.  What is Burnout? Burnout is brought on by excessive, prolonged stress. It causes feelings of helplessness, making you feel stuck in a trap of constant emotional, mental, and physical exhaustion. Burnout may stem from feelings of being overwhelmed or an inability to live up to others’ standards or expectations. It can keep you up at night, fraught with anxiety, and lead to bad sleeping habits. It may alienate you from loved ones or make every task seem like an unattainable uphill challenge. Think back to the last time you felt full of motivation, energy, and hope. Has it been a while? Do you find yourself feeling stuck on the couch, unwilling to leave the house to engage with others, or complete tasks? Burnout can wipe out your desire to perform your regular daily duties in your home, social, and work environments. Is this starting to sound all too familiar? Let’s take a look at how this process begins with stress and progresses into a snowball of concerns. What is Stress? Your body is built to respond to various demands, including potentially dangerous situations. Stress is how your body reacts to and adjusts to these situations. When you begin to sense or even perceive a threat, your body’s defense mechanisms trigger a helpful, automatic reaction. We call this our “fight-or-flight” response or “stress response.”  But at a certain point, you may cross a threshold that causes stress to stop being helpful. It has the potential to become harmful to your health, causing significant damage to your mood, productivity, and relationships, while creating bad sleeping habits, and lowering your quality of health. But that’s not all my friends. As your stress becomes chronic, your systems create reactions that may lead to even more severe health problems. Issues caused by excessive stress may include: Autoimmune diseases Depression and anxiety Various aches and pains throughout your body Bad sleeping habits Digestive issues Skin conditions, such as eczema or acne breakouts Heart disease Weight concerns Reproductive issues  Cognitive problems such as memory loss Adrenal fatigue What is Considered Chronic Stress? When your body continues to battle chronic stress, you lose interest in the world around you. Chronic stress affects your nervous system, leading to a state of hopelessness, negativity, and helplessness. Chronic stress can affect all areas of your life across every system in your body. You may find chronic stress can: Suppress your immune system Cause disruptions and discomforts in your digestive system Be responsible for reproductive systems issues Place you at higher risk of heart attack and stroke Fast track the aging process Cause cognitive changes within your brain which can make you more susceptible to depression, anxiety, and other mental health concerns Lead you down the road to adrenal fatigue and burnout Result in bad sleeping habits Recognizing Signs of Stress That May Lead to Burnout One of the most dangerous things about stress is that it can sneak up on you before you realize what’s happening. Trust me when I tell you it’s not a road you want to find yourself on. It may begin with a bit of worry at the office or home with your family's demands. Over time, you develop bad sleeping habits and pushing yourself a little more to get things done while ignoring the signs of real stress. Soon, you’re getting used to the daily battles, and even convincing yourself it’s just your usual way of life. This feeling becomes so familiar; you stop noticing just how much it is taking a toll on you. And before you know it, you've dug yourself into a hole that seems too steep to climb your way out of. But there's hope! Understanding and learning to recognize some of the typical stress overload warning signs and symptoms can help you handle or even prevent this horrible fall into burnout. Familiarize yourself with the various manifestations of burnout. Ask yourself if any of these signs or symptoms already apply to you: Emotional symptoms: Unable to find pleasure or happiness, depression Anxiety Moody, irritable, or experiencing anger easily Feelings of being overwhelmed, even with the smallest tasks Often experiencing feelings loneliness and isolation Other mental or emotional health problems Cognitive symptoms: Memory loss Inability to focus and lack of concentration Lacking in judgment Viewing the world in a negative light Anxiety, racing thoughts A constant state of worry Sleep disturbances Physical symptoms: Aches and pains throughout your body Unexplainable diarrhea or constipation Nausea, dizziness, disorientation Unable to explain chest pains, rapid heart rate, shortness of breath Decrease or loss of sex drive Frequently sick Unexplainable exhaustion  Behavioral symptoms: Extreme increase or decrease in appetite Bad sleeping habits, including too much or not enough sleep, unable to sleep through the night soundly Withdrawing from friends and family Lack of interest in work or social events Putting off or neglecting responsibilities Relying on alcohol, drugs or other vices to relax Developing nervous habits Reduction in productivity Knowing the Warning Signs and Symptoms of Burnout While chronic stress may have similar symptoms, recognizing you have officially hit burnout is essential to your health. Reaching burnout is a gradual process and often unrecognizable, sneaking up on you while in turmoil. Signs and symptoms are subtle at first, so knowing what to look for can be incredibly beneficial to your health: Physical Signs and Symptoms of Burnout Feelings of adrenal fatigue Weak immune system and easily sick Unexplainable headaches, muscle, and joint aches Drastic changes in your appetite Emotional Signs and Symptoms of Burnout Extreme feelings of failure or low self-esteem Feelings of defeat, helpless, and loneliness Extreme lack of motivation Feelings of negativity towards work and social engagements Behavioral Signs and Symptoms of Burnout Withdrawing from work and home responsibilities Withdrawing from friends and family Extreme procrastination or avoidance of daily tasks Avoiding work, tardiness, or skipping out early Using food, alcohol, or drugs as an escape Developing bad sleeping habits Recognizing the Differences Between Stress and Burnout Not quite sure where you fall? You aren’t alone. The gradual shift from chronic stress to burnout can make it difficult to differentiate between the two, so let’s break it down a bit. Think of stress as “too much" and burnout as "not enough." When you are under stress, you may feel too much pressure to perform tasks and achieve goals. Burnout will leave you feeling empty without enough hope, motivation to try, or feeling there’s nothing left in you to give. Even under extreme stress, you are still able to envision a light at the end of the tunnel. There is a glimmer of hope, and you see a possible way out. Here are a few handy comparisons to gauge where you may fall:                                 What are the signs of stress?  Excessive engagement Hypersensitive, over-emotional Hyperactive, elevating all tasks to urgent Loss of energy, adrenal fatigue Anxiety Primarily physical symptoms What are the signs of burnout? Disengagement Often numb to emotions Feelings of extreme helpless and hopeless Extreme decrease in motivation Depression and detachment from others Primarily emotional symptoms What is Adrenal Fatigue? You may often hear the term “adrenal fatigue" and the arguments surrounding it. So, let’s take a deeper dive into adrenal fatigue. While not clinically recognized as a diagnosis, adrenal fatigue describes a group of nonspecific symptoms. This may include various body aches and pains, exhaustion, nervousness, bad sleeping habits, and various digestive issues. Adrenal fatigue may be a condition stemming from the adrenal glands not producing enough hormones, yet overexerting themselves while trying. Long battles with mental, emotional, and physical stress are often a common link to adrenal fatigue.  The hormones your adrenal glands produce are responsible for managing inflammation and helping to maintain your metabolism. They work to regulate your salt and water balance, blood pressure, and stress levels during your fight or flight responses. Although it is not currently an official medical diagnosis, certain conditions can negatively affect your adrenal glands and are certainly worth noting: What are the Symptoms and Signs of Adrenal Fatigue? Extreme tiredness Bad sleeping habits, including difficulty waking up Unexplainable cravings for salt and sugar Unexplainable weight loss Over-reliance on caffeine or other stimulants Various unexplainable digestive issues I know what you must be thinking. This seems like an awfully generic list - but it’s helpful to keep an eye out for these signs, as they may lead to more severe types of illness. If you are experiencing many of the signs of chronic stress or know you have already reached burnout, adrenal fatigue may help you make sense of your symptoms. Adrenal fatigue theories explain that your adrenal glands will activate under the pressures of stress. Long-term stress causes your glands to experience fatigue and feel unable to handle your body’s demands. Think about your work environment. Is your job causing you high stress? Are you a single parent, shift worker, or first responder? You may be at higher risk of experiencing adrenal fatigue due to the stressful demands of your job expectations. Possible Health Issues Due to Adrenal Fatigue Adrenal insufficiency happens when the adrenal glands are not releasing enough hormones, including cortisol. This can lead to: Weakening of muscles Weight loss Ongoing fatigue Irregular menstrual cycles Abdominal pains, nausea, and diarrhea Blood pressure concerns Agitation and depression Hypoglycemia Can Adrenal Fatigue be Life-threatening?  Be aware of your ongoing symptoms. In extreme cases, adrenal insufficiency can lead to life-threatening symptoms, including: Intense pain in the lower back, legs, or abdomen brought on suddenly Severe episodes of diarrhea or vomiting Dehydration Loss of consciousness How Can I Manage Burnout? If you’ve spent some time with me, you know what a die-hard believer I am in the use of bone broth. By working to cleanse from the inside out, bone broth is ideal for combatting bad sleeping habits, inflammation, and adrenal fatigue.  Bone broth provides your body with the essential vitamins and nutrients necessary to target many of the symptoms that burnout causes, including: Weight gain Mood Anxiety and depression Chronic fatigue Pain throughout your body Skin conditions, such as eczema Heart disease Digestive issues, including bloating and leaky gut Bad sleeping habits What Makes Bone Broth Ingredients the Perfect Burnout Solution? How to Sail Through the Holidays without Gaining a Pound

by Dr. Kellyann on Dec 18 2019
Written by Tricia Nelson If you assume that on January 1st you’ll automatically have weight to lose on account of holiday eating, think again. There is a way that you can enjoy the holidays, including great food, without going overboard.  Here are 5 suggestions that can help you stay in check during holiday time: Try the “3 Meal Magic” plan. Three meals with nothing in between but calorie-free liquids. You’ll be amazed at how much easier it is to abstain from unhealthy foods when you work within the three meal structure; only eat meals, not nibbley things like nuts, chips, or candies. You will be eliminating most of the trouble foods when you practice 3 Meal Magic! “Just one” Theory.Remember, there is no such thing as “just one”. If you think you can handle eating just one, or even just one handful of nibbley things, take a hard look as to how successful you’ve been at eating “just one”. “None” is better than “some”, especially if you’re prone to emotional eating.  Help out by serving others. Instead of hanging out by the dessert table looking for some company, be proactive and help the hostess. Clear the table or offer to do some dishes. Getting into action will take your mind off of food and fill you up with a feeling of usefulness.  Free food isn’t free.I don’t know why this is, but whenever food is free, people think they had better get their fill. It’s been a long time since the last famine, so it really doesn’t make sense. Tell yourself you can have whatever you want, anytime, even if you have to pay for it later. Then just decline the freebies. Buffet. Food buffets, especially at restaurants, are usually big traps for emotional eaters. Even if we intend to eat a normal amount, by the time we’re in the middle of the buffet and have a full plate, we feel obligated to continue putting food on until we’re at the end. The best thing to do is to peruse the entire length of the buffet before starting.   Tricia Nelson lost fifty pounds by identifying and healing the underlying causes of her emotional eating. What is our Rapid Reset Detox?

by Dr. Kellyann on Nov 25 2019
When it comes to cleansing your body, there are many options to consider. Arming yourself with knowledge will help keep you safe, healthy, and on your way to a better lifestyle. If you’re considering a detox, you may be wondering which options are right for your needs and if a detox will provide a safe and effective way to cleanse your body. The Basics of a Detox A detox has the incredible ability to help remove destructive toxins from your body. Detoxes work to cleanse your blood while also working to heal. In just a short time, a detox acts as a rapid reset, focusing on providing support to your body’s natural detoxification systems. Through a short-term, restricted diet, your digestive tract is the target of the rapid reset, while also cleansing your kidneys, lungs, skin, and liver. The Detox Details Your body has its own cleansing systems in place which work hard to support your health. But don’t think for a second you can sit back and let it deal with the junk it’s exposed to alone. You can give your body an enormous amount of support by helping its natural systems cleanse. During a detox, you’ll help improve your liver and kidney functions with a rapid reset. These two organs provide the others with the assistance they need during the detox process. Most detox plans include a fasting period, followed by a diet plan with several restrictions. Typically, you’ll be limited to consuming fruits, vegetables, and certain liquids, including fruit and veggie smoothies. Additional Benefits of a Detox There is an array of benefits a detox can offer your body, including providing critical nutrients. It also gives your digestive system a chance to rest and restore by not digesting solids during the fasting period. Your liver will be supported through the removal of toxins released through your urine, sweat, and bowel movements. But is Fasting Safe? When done correctly, intermittent fasting can provide you with fantastic benefits. Fasting can boost your energy while helping to repair muscles, and guard against illness. Anti-inflammatory benefits and the loss of belly fat aren’t bad either. A Safe Way to Detox A healthy detox should never leave you feeling depleted and unmotivated. You should fill up with enough nutrients, fiber, and clean protein to help you feel energized and craving-free. My five-day reset was initially designed to help me restore during a time my own health was failing. By combining the healing powers of collagen-filled bone broth and an abundance of all the essential vitamins and nutrients, my five-day reset restored and rejuvenated me. It provides a healthy, gentle way to rid your body of toxins and begin the healing process. It’s even safe enough to repeat once a month, or quarterly, as I do.  Whether you’re looking for a new, healthy you or a path back to your healthy lifestyle, a five-day reset will give your body a fresh start. You’ll flood your cells with nourishment, melt away those last few pounds of belly fat, and reverse the signs of exhaustion and aging. Ready to start your five-day rapid reset? The Safety of the Rapid Reset as a Keto Cleanse

by Dr. Kellyann on Nov 21 2019
For many, keto has been a successful way to cleanse and live a healthy lifestyle. But is it safe? It requires several dietary restrictions that are new to most and can require an adjustment period as your body works through some of the possible side effects. Finding a safe and healthy cleanse for a rapid reset is an important task, one that you shouldn't take lightly. There is a wealth of information out there. Weighing the pros and cons will help you decide on the cleanse best suited for your body. So, how safe and effective is a keto cleanse, and what should you expect? Keto Cleanse Basics Living a keto lifestyle isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. It restricts your carb intake to the bare minimum, allows you only moderate portions of proteins, and increases your fat intake to burn fat quickly. Yep, you read that correctly; you’ll be burning fat by consuming more fat. With the drastic cut back to your carb consumption, your body is being instructed to burn ketone bodies, a type of fat. The burning of ketones is in place of burning the sugar you typically use for energy. This state, known as ketosis, helps your body melt stubborn belly fat quicker than you ever thought possible. And with that stubborn belly fat goes the equally stubborn toxins that have invaded your body. It's an entirely natural process of metabolism and is even triggered when you haven’t consumed food for quite some time. When your body goes through a rapid reset, it experiences a drop in insulin levels, and stored fat releases from your fat cells. This abundance of fat fills your liver, turning most of it into ketones. Your entire body, including your brain, utilizes the energy created by burning these ketones. Keto Pros I’m a firm believer that the safety of any cleanse depends on the conscious choices you make. A rapid reset of your systems with a keto cleanse can be beneficial in many ways. It offers a quick method of attaining ketosis; or a fat-burning state. It also reduces and balances your blood sugar and insulin levels, which are critical factors in the weight loss game. A safe keto cleanse will provide you with low or non-processed foods, non-starchy veggies, and fruits that are low in carb content. The addition of collagen and bone broth is always a huge plus! Who wouldn't want clear, radiant skin, healthy hair and nails, and the extra healing benefits these two powerhouses provide? Your body would also benefit from pairing keto with a healthy five-day cleanse.  Keto Woes Are you making wise choices to keep yourself safe and healthy? During a rapid reset, your body is stripped down to minimums your system isn’t accustomed to. There is a right way and a wrong way to approach any cleanse. For instance: Fat is Fat Or is it? A keto cleanse isn’t a rapid reset that gives you a free pass to go crazy on just any fatty food you're dying to get your hands on. To burn fat, you need to be consuming the right fats. Pass on processed fatty foods and oils claiming to be veggie. These imposters may send a tidal wave of inflammation throughout your body. Steer clear of inflammatory, disease-prone oils such as: Corn Soy Canola  Instead, replace these choices with healthier alternatives such as coconut and olive oil. Additional healthy fats to add to your “yes” list include:  Avocados Grass-fed dairy products Wild fish Don’t Overdo the Dairy Many following a keto cleanse tend to fill up on dairy during their keto cleanse. While grass-fed dairy has its benefits, too much can cause you some unpleasant discomforts. You may be one of the 65% of people who have lactose intolerance. The levels of intolerance can vary, and some people don’t even know they have a lactose intolerance at first. As we get older, our ability to handle lactose decreases. And what happens to lactose when it can’t be easily digested? It just sits there. Milk’s natural sugar fills your gut with the threat of inflammation and disease, just waiting to wreak havoc on your body. As it slowly begins to ferment over time, you’ll have the unpleasant gifts of bloating and gas. Add to this the possibility that you’re allergic to milk’s protein, casein, and you’ve now gifted yourself the possible unpleasantries of: Nausea and vomiting Diarrhea Eczema, hives, or other skin conditions Beware of Keto Quick-Fixes  Don’t be fooled by fancy labels. Just because it says it’s keto doesn't mean it's healthy for you. Sure, it may be easier to grab a keto bar and dash out the door, but do you know what you're putting into your body? Consider the fact that you are very limited to the amount and the types of foods you may consume while following a keto plan. It adds up quickly, so you might as well make sure you aren’t filling up on harmful ingredients or empty calories, right? Make each bite count and fill yourself with fiber and protein instead of a quick fix that may leave you feeling depleted and disappointed. Too often, “diet” bars are loaded with artificial sugars, a long list of chemicals to preserve them, and unnatural flavorings. Kind of defeats the purpose of a rapid reset, doesn't it? It may say low carb, but are you sure you're getting the necessary amounts of vitamins, antioxidants, and fiber your body needs on a cleanse? It certainly can’t compare to the nutrients you receive from a healthy, prepared meal. Pre-existing Health Concerns  You can ensure the safety of your health by consulting your doctor before taking on an aggressive challenge like keto. Certain underlying health conditions are dangerous when paired with the restrictions that come with keto’s rapid reset guidelines. If you have had liver failure, pancreatitis, or impaired fat metabolism, embarking on a high-fat cleanse may not be the right choice for you. If you know your body has trouble absorbing, digesting, or making use of fats, talk with your doctor before jumping in blindly. Although keto is known for its amazingly quick weight loss results, play it safe if you are on medication or have diabetes. Keto has even found itself in the middle of safety debates concerning obese cleanse-goers. Don’t risk hypoglycemia or other complications you may not be aware of. A rapid reset should be done safely to ensure your health. Side Effects to Be Aware Of Not everyone will experience these side effects, but it’s a good idea to make yourself aware of the possibilities. For some, it may be the deciding factor of trying a keto cleanse or not. The Keto Flu  Your body may experience flu-like symptoms when you first begin ketosis. Resembling the flu, the "low-carb flu" or "keto flu" cause various short-term symptoms, including: Fatigue Hunger Difficulty sleeping Feelings of brain fogginess Nausea Lack of energy They certainly don't sound enjoyable, but if you can power through a couple of days of symptoms, your body will love you for it. Muscle Cramping of the Legs  Leg cramps are a pesky side effect that’s typically caused by the depletion of minerals and water. Although you may be pushing liquids to keep yourself hydrated, ketosis is known for reducing water weight. The lack of carbs in a keto cleanse removes glycogen from your liver and muscles as it flushes out toxins. Digestive Issues It’s not uncommon to experience various digestive issues and discomforts with the change of any diet. With keto, you are more likely to deal with constipation than anything. The decrease of fiber in the keto cleanse paired with the water loss can lead to constipation, but you should be good to go within a couple of weeks. Changes in Heart Rate  Some people feel like their heart is racing during the beginning of their keto diet. Your body is adjusting to the decrease in carbs and salt, as well as possible dehydration. If it’s persistent, add a bit more to your carb intake to see if it subsides. Less Than Pleasant Breath Ok, so this isn't exactly a deal-breaker, but worth mentioning. You may notice an acetone smell to your breath for a couple of weeks. It's normal and common, so no need to panic. Just toss a pack of mints or gum in your car, and you're set! Staying Keto-Positive Before I run you off with all my talk of health concerns and restrictions that come with the keto cleanse, let me shower you with some positive news. Keto has been linked to health benefits in patients with type two diabetes, epilepsy, and other chronic health illnesses. It jumpstarts healthy eating habits and teaches you the benefits and dangers of various foods. When you take on the keto cleanse for weight loss goals, you’ll love the results you can achieve. So much so, that I’ve designed my Cleanse and Reset to be keto, paleo, and vegetarian-friendly with easy to implement modifications. It’s a five-day cleanse that will turn your health around. On top of that, I've incorporated the ultra-rapid reset benefits of keto with my five-day cleanse to offer your body a head start. I call it the Keto Push. Keto + Cleanse and Reset Why consider pairing your keto cleanse with my five-day cleanse? The great news is that they're made up of nutritious green smoothies, shakes, and soups that will flood your body with the essentials you need. Your digestive tract will have time to heal while taking a break from digesting solids. Reducing your carb intake significantly will kick you into serious fat-burning mode while you begin to restore your health and feel rejuvenated! Modifying the Cleanse to Meet Your Keto Needs If you’re already living a keto lifestyle, this rapid reset will pair easily and bring you increased health benefits and weight loss results! While there are many things to consider when evaluating the safety of the keto cleanse, you know your body best. Consider your health, the side effects, and the goals you hope to achieve with keto. If you still find yourself on the fence about it, why not try the Keto Push and the five-day cleanse? Think of it as a crash course to test the waters and see how your body reacts to the change. I guarantee your body will thank you for the five-day rapid reset, if nothing else. Find out how to start healing your body today!

Keto, Upgraded: Hello, Fat Loss & Feeling Fabulous!

by Dr. Kellyann on Nov 18 2019
Written by Dr. Anna Cabeca If you’re like most of my patients, you’ve tried a ketogenic diet but struggled to stick with it. Once you got through the initial hurdle -- yes, I’m talking about miseries like keto flu! -- you probably lost a few pounds and felt better. But before long, you got stuck. You were miserable, cranky, barely making it through your afternoon without two cups of coffee, and feeling deprived when your dinner companions enjoyed foods like berries and other keto-forbidden foods. I’ve learned that ketogenic diets will only work if you can stick with them. And for many of my patients, that can be hard to do when you’re feeling deprived and unhappy. But keto diets do get results.  With those caveats in mind, I combined the best qualities of keto diets with some science-based, results-driven tweaks to create “keto 2.0.”  I’ve called this plan the Keto-Green™ Diet. With these principles, I’ve helped many patients get and maintain fat loss, better energy, and so many other benefits.  I write about my breakthrough detox, lifestyle and diet plan in my just-published book, The Hormone Fix. And I want to tell you about this plan here. The Keto-Green™ Diet takes the best aspects of a traditional keto diet and combines them with simple but effective hacks including:  More alkaline vegetables, especially low-carb green veggies Dietary and lifestyle strategies to maintain the fat-burning state called ketosis  A “test don’t guess” rationale of checking urine pH it to get it to 7 - 8 regularly  You get real results, very quickly. For so many of my patients and “test readers,” the Keto-Green™ Diet delivers: Fast, steady weight loss More energy and less fatigue Improved sleep and better mood More mental clarity Glowing skin and hair Improved health and well-being You’ve probably read about other keto diets that promise to be different, so let me explain why mine truly is.  The Keto-Green™ Diet combines the latest science with decades working with patients to create lasting results. Compared with traditional keto diets, the Keto-Green™ Diet gives you: More choices. If the idea of eating another piece of meat, slathering butter on everything, or having bacon and eggs again makes you cringe, you’ll be happy to know the Keto-Green™ Diet includes lots more variety. Among those choices include: Green leafy vegetables Berries Free-range, wild-caught seafood Delicious fats like avocado, nuts, and olive oil  These foods will help balance your hormones and help the weight come off. To learn more, read my free “What’s Happening To My Hormones” ebook here. Clarity. Ketogenic diets often require measuring, counting, and estimating macros. Who has time for that? On the Keto-Green™ Diet, I ask you to visualize a plate with a majority of alkaline foods (lots of low carb veggies!) and 20 percent high-quality protein and fats. No more guesswork or wondering if you’re eating keto.  Nutrients for detoxification. You don’t need expensive, grueling detoxification powders or pills on my plan! The Keto-Green™ Diet includes low-sugar fruits and other plant-based alkaline foods. These foods give your liver the nutrients to detoxify.  A smooth transition into keto. On the Keto-Green™ Diet, you’re not going to struggle with brain fog, headaches, fatigue, and other symptoms the transition into ketogenic diets often brings. Because we bring in plenty of plant-based alkaline foods that eliminate the build-up of acidity in your cells, you’ll sail right into keto and... Results fast. The Keto-Green™ Diet tests ketones but also the alkalinity (pH) of your urine. When you’re more alkaline, you burn fat and feel better more quickly.   Tools that create and sustain success. The Keto-Green™ Diet incorporates other strategies I’ve used to optimize keto diets. Those include intermittent fasting, shifting into ketosis faster and helping break any plateaus you might hit along the way.  Those are the reasons why the Keto-Green™ Diet is the ultimate keto diet. I’ve streamlined ketogenic diets while adding additional tactics to help you balance hormones, lose weight, and feel fantastic. So let’s get started, OK? You’ll begin with a 10-Day Keto-Green™Detox, where you’ll lose up to a pound a day. And you’ll progress to the 21-Day Keto-Green™ Diet.  I’ve provided a detailed, simple-to-use plan In The Hormone Fix. In my book, you’ll find: Day-by-day directions to incorporate my plan Delicious, mouth-watering recipes Lifestyle strategies to weight and balance your hormones naturally  Once you’ve ordered the book, you can start doing the Keto-Green™ Diet right now with these strategies. Stock up on Keto-Green™ foods. These include:  Low-calorie/high fiber/detoxifying veggies like broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, sprouts, peppers, green beans, asparagus, leeks, all types of greens, among others Keto foods such as eggs, poultry, meat, fatty fish (like salmon and mackerel) Healthy fats such as coconut oil, MCT oil, olive oil, nuts and seeds, and avocados 2. Include these alkaline hacks. Some of my favorite ways to boost alkalinity include:  Apple cider vinegar  Baking soda  Lemons and limes  Mighty Maca Plus®  The Keto-Green™ Diet fixes problems that my patients and readers often encounter on traditional keto diets. There are many reasons people choose to cleanse and reset their bodies. Some have goals of losing weight while others are focused on removing toxins from their system. Many of you are still on the fence about cleanses and wonder if they are truly healthy and safe. So, what do I tell people who ask me about cleanses? If you follow a healthy cleanse correctly, it's not only incredibly safe but amazingly beneficial as well! Your body will reap the rewards of: Safe and Healthy Weight Loss Reduced Inflammation The Ability to Reset, Restore, and Re-energizing Your Body Support for Your Liver and Kidneys Improving Your Mental Health Healing a Leaky Gut A Healthy Lifestyle Reduced Bloating and Constipation Detoxing and Supporting Your Body’s Natural Detox Systems Improving the Health and Appearance of Your Skin What Does a Healthy Cleanse Look Like? It will heal your body by removing toxins and repairing your cells.  A healthy cleanse and reset will have you feeling stronger, both during and afterward. Adding clean protein to your cleanse will bring your stomach a satisfied feeling while providing your body with the energy you need for your regular daily activities. A healthy cleanse is one that leaves you feeling and looking remarkable!   Ten Benefits You Don’t Want to Miss Out On There are so many incredible health benefits to look forward to when you commit to a cleanse and reset. I can honestly tell you that my health was in trouble until I put together a five-day cleanse that turned it all around. Can you honestly look through this list and tell me your body wouldn’t benefit?    Safe and Healthy Weight Loss A cleanse and reset focuses on the toxins that have invaded your digestive tract and threaten your health. It also removes parasites and waste from your body. While replenishing your body with the essential nutrients it requires, your cells will be cleansed, repaired, and protected. As the inflammation in your digestive tract begins to decrease and healing continues, the stubborn extra pounds you’ve been trying to lose will melt away quickly. A safe cleanse will flood your system with nourishment, never leaving you feeling hungry or run down. Supporting your weight loss goals with a cleanse will provide:  Vitamins Nutrients Antioxidants Collagen Fiber Amino acids Clean protein Reduce Inflammation A cleanse can fight off inflammation throughout your entire body. As it flushes out the toxins that invade your body daily, your whole body will begin to recover. Now, most of you know I never get tired of warning you about the havoc inflammation can bring to your body. Cleansing has the power to heal your gut by targeting inflammation. And I always say that the happier your gut, the healthier your body! My five-day cleanse is loaded with gelatin, known to soothe and repair any damage that may have already been done to your digestive system. A cleanse and reset of your system, as well as the repetition of a cleanse every few months, will help protect your body against various diseases and health concerns, including: A leaky gut Certain cancers Heart issues, including high blood pressure Joint aches and pains, including arthritis Problems with your skin Chronic fatigue Bloating and constipation Reset, Restore, Re-energize Would you pass up the chance to feel healthy and energized again? A cleanse provides your body with the opportunity to restore health and get you back on track. It allows your systems to cleanse and reset, restoring your body to its naturally healthy, happy self. By filling up on the vital nutrients you've been lacking, you can restore balance and re-energize quickly. It’s your body’s chance for a do-over. My five-day cleanse sparked my energy on the very first day. I felt motivated and determined to restore my health and return to my health-conscious lifestyle. It’s an effective cleanse and reset that will re-energize your body, mind, and soul.   Improved Mindset It’s the most amazing feeling when the fog begins to lift, and you start to feel like yourself again. A cleanse can boost your spirits and bring back the happiness that has been buried beneath that layer of unhealthiness. It's incredible how powerful vitamins and nutrients are when you spoil your system with them. Choosing the proper foods for your cleanse will help elevate your mood and relieve anxiety, stress, and depression.   Healing a Leaky Gut Many people don't realize the damage a leaky gut can cause throughout the body. It can lead to an array of health issues, including: Higher levels of blood glucose Stubborn belly fat Various digestive problems, including bloating and diarrhea Allergies Eczema or other skin issues Type one diabetes Irritable bowel syndrome Depression and anxiety Chronic fatigue syndrome Rheumatoid arthritis A cleanse helps combat and heal a leaky gut, as well as the damage already done throughout your body. The abundance of nutrients helps to soothe your gut’s inflammation, then repair and defend your gut against further damage, protecting you from additional health issues.   A Healthier You If you've strayed from your healthy path, a cleanse is a fantastic way to find your way back. It's a quick jumpstart to cleanse and reset your body. Even a quick five-day cleanse can bathe your cells in the nutrients they’ve been craving and return you to the healthiest version of yourself. The Cleanse and Reset will guide you through the process to get your health back on track, melt away the belly fat, and help your body thrive once again. Perhaps you're looking to make a change by committing to a healthy lifestyle. In that case, a cleanse is a great way to get started. While you're preparing, you'll learn the importance of various foods and the benefits they provide to your body. Soon, you'll quickly identify which foods offer the particular nutrients you need to combat various health concerns. Your body will thank you for the healthy reboot to your system and cells coated in the essentials they've been craving. You'll feel stronger, healthier, and more alive than ever before. You’ll also benefit from: Lowering your blood sugar Reducing your risk of heart disease Lowering your cholesterol Supporting Your Liver and Kidneys Cleanses are designed to be a temporary adjustment in your regular diet that offers your cells a chance to cleanse, repair, and rejuvenate. By consuming the proper fruits and veggies, vital antioxidants will begin the detoxification process of your kidneys and liver. With these two powerhouses functioning at their best, your entire digestive tract can successfully clear out remaining toxins and restore the healthy balance throughout your whole body.    Bloating and Constipation If you’re tired of dealing with the discomforts of bloating and constipation, you’ll be happy to hear a cleanse can help. Linked to inflammation and a leaky gut, these two unwanted issues can also be banished with a quick five-day cleanse. Have you heard that dandelions are a great way to get rid of bloating? It’s true. During your cleanse, slip them in a tea or one of your soups or smoothies to fight bacteria in your gut and settle your digestive issues with ease. The number of liquids you'll be taking in will also help flush out toxins and alleviate constipation. When your liver is bombarded with toxins, congestion occurs. You may notice headaches, sluggishness, and yes, constipation. But once the cleanse works its magic on your liver, constipation issues begin to dissolve.   Support for your Natural Detox Systems Your body was designed to detox itself naturally. But just because those systems are in place doesn't mean you're free and clear. You still need to do your share of caring for your body to maintain your health. Your body can only carry the weight for so long — trust me. It took an unforgettable plane ride (lying in the center aisle) to realize my body had been trying to tell me I wasn't pulling my weight. I had gone too long, relying on my body to do the work for me. Without committing to my five-day cleanse, I would not have been able to restore my health so quickly. When you don't help support your body's natural detox systems, you open yourself up to the risk of too many health issues, including: Weight gain High blood sugar A spike in insulin levels Increased risk for type two diabetes Wrinkles and fine lines Heart disease Your body works hard to try to keep you safe and healthy. Reward it with a cleanse every few months, while choosing a healthy lifestyle for support in between.   The Skin You’ve Always Wanted Do you fill your body with artificial sweeteners, trans fats, and preservatives, just to name a few? And on top of the mountain of toxins it's exposed to? Did you know you are only helping to speed up your body’s aging process? These toxins are the cause of many fine lines and wrinkles, sagging, dehydrated skin, and that dull, tired look that stares back at you in the mirror. It’s even causing inflammation that leads to acne. Your daily exposure to toxins also adds to acne issues. A cleanse can provide vital antioxidants to help calm skin inflammation and support the balance of your skin’s health. My five-day cleanse offers recipes full of collagen and bone broth to help restore your youthful glow and beautiful, firm skin. During the five-day cleanse, you'll fill your body with liquid gold that helps restore proteins, antioxidants, and amino acids to keep your skin vibrant. Thanks to the added collagen, you’ll start to see the fine lines and wrinkles disappear, removing years from your reflection. Your eyes will brighten, the dark circles will vanish, and your skin will be as healthy as ever. Why My Five-Day Cleanse My Cleanse and Reset combine three amazing cleansing groups; shakes, soups, and green smoothies. I even provide you with all my favorite recipes that are packed full of the most beneficial fruits and veggies. These selections are full of phytochemicals that help flush out toxins. They also do a phenomenal job of energizing your cells, making your eyes brighter, and giving your skin a healthier glow. This five-day cleanse will provide your body with the right amount of fiber it needs to heal your GI tract, fight inflammation, and even regulate your thyroid. It’s a cleanse that promotes a wide range of health benefits, including: Promoting safe weight loss Healing a leaky gut Protecting you from blood clots Lowering your blood pressure Muscle building Lowering your blood sugar Helps protect you from many cancers Supporting healthy blood vessels What are the Health Benefits of a Five-Day Cleanse and Reset? Don't worry; five days will fly right by! Many choose to extend it a couple of days or begin with a Keto quick start beforehand. So, why is five the magic number? My Cleanse and Reset Five-Day Cleanse is based on proven results. Maximum weight loss in the majority of people happens within the first five days — and that’s the case with any cleanse. There are many out there that offer results in three days of cleansing. While it’s better than no cleanse at all, your system is just getting to the good part on day three. Your body will benefit from the impact of powering through a five-day cleanse. Around the third day, most people are beginning to notice substantial digestive changes. Bloating has subsided, your waistline is finally disappearing, and you’re no longer feeling the need to satisfy your sugar cravings.  By days four and five, you are seeing and feeling all the incredible health benefits of your cleanse. Your body has been restored with the energy it’s been missing. Your tummy is slimmer. Your skin, nails, and hair are coming back to life. Your head is clear, and your mood has lifted. All of this, with a five-day cleanse. If you're ready to commit to five days of healthy eating, toxin flushing, and energy-boosting, then I have the tools to help! How to Beat Hunger and Cravings on the Cleanse and Reset

by Dr. Kellyann on Nov 08 2019
Before you turn your nose up at the mention of another cleanse, let me fill you in on WHY you probably haven't seen the results you wanted in the past. There are many wonderful benefits of a cleanse, but you need the RIGHT cleanse to get you there. One of the most common complaints I hear is the dread of constant hunger. And if you’re hungry, you may cut your cleanse short, let cravings win, or suffer through, dealing with the fatigue and run-down appearance it causes. But what if you could experience a five-day cleanse that would not only cleanse and reset you physically and mentally but give you the energy and satisfied stomach to see you through to the finish line? Here’s why it’s not too good to be true.   The Need for Protein  There is a misconception that proteins have no place in cleanses. Most cleanses limit you to water and green juice with the belief that the lack of protein is the only way to allow your gut time to heal. It’s believed that time off from digesting solids will lead to the successful cleanse and reset of your body. But you likely noticed you were left feeling sluggish, hungry, and lacking a healthy skin tone. Can you guess what your cleanse was lacking? Clean protein. The amino acids that protein provides offer many benefits, including: Getting rid of bloating Improving your immune system Strengthening the wall of your gut Cleansing and unclogging your cells Repairing your joints Fill you up and prevent cravings   The best part is, you will still be giving your gut time to rest and heal. My five-day cleanse is based on a liquid form of protein through bone broth and collagen. They are allergen-free proteins that are gentle as well as healing and fulfilling.   Feeling Deprived or Depleted? Not on My Cleanse! My five-day cleanse will load you up on all the essential nutrients your body needs to cleanse and reset properly. And I do mean load you up. Most cleanses lack the abundance of nutrients vital to healing your body, adding to your feelings of exhaustion and hunger. A cleanse should flood your system with: Potassium to keep you from feeling bloated and low on energy Zinc to guard against infections Vitamins A and C to regulate your thyroid, promote weight loss and collagen production   And the list goes on. Limiting your body of any crucial nutrient will hinder your cleansing efforts. Period.   Fiber = Full My Cleanse and Reset provides you with tools to ensure success. You’ll find recipes for smoothies, shakes, and soups as well as a grocery list to make it easy! Your “yes” food list will contain fiber-packed foods to promote cleansing and help you feel full and satisfied. Plus, they’re insanely low in calories, so fill up! You won’t need to worry about cleansing cravings standing in your way of a healthy body and slimmer waist.   Give me five days to show you what a true cleanse can do for you. You’ll feel restored, refreshed, and rejuvenated. Get started today! Keep thinking Big and living BOLD!

by Dr. Kellyann on Nov 06 2019
As you prepare to begin your cleanse, you'll want to ensure you stay healthy throughout the process. When done right, a cleanse can restore your body and have you feeling healthier in a matter of days. While some cleanses leave you feeling sluggish, deprived, or unmotivated, my cleanse and reset builds you back up and energizes you. In just five days, you’ll experience a rapid reset that will leave you rejuvenated. So how do you prepare your body and mind, so you stay healthy during your cleanse? Hydrate! Hydrate! Hydrate! Start hydrating a couple of days before you even start your rapid reset. This will help prepare your body for the cleanse (although you should be hydrating daily anyway). Be sure to get in at least eight cups of water every day.  Rest and Repair Getting a good night’s sleep is critical to maintaining your physical and mental health. Keep in mind that some of you will be drastically reducing the usual amount of carbs, proteins, and sugars your body is used to eating. It could be a bit of a bumpy ride at first, so treat your body and mind right and get your rest.  If possible, get seven to eight hours of sleep each night.  Eat Consistently Try to plan your meals or snacks, so they are spread out evenly and consistently throughout your day. A general rule of thumb is every three to four hours. On my cleanse and reset plan, you'll be getting more than enough nutrients for your body to feel energized as well as satisfied all day. However, there are cleanses that will leave you with little energy and often hungry. Spacing out your meals consistently can keep you energized and curb some of your hunger and cravings throughout the day. Fill Up On “Yes” Foods There are many choices of fresh, whole foods to choose from while you cleanse and reset. My rapid reset provides you with tasty recipes and a list of “yes” foods; many of which are found under the unlimited servings category. Fill up! Packed with the vitamins and nutrients your body needs, these nutritious “yes” foods will keep you healthy and satisfied. Although you'll be cutting back on carbs and protein, you'll still be taking in enough to promote a healthy and safe cleanse. Stop the Sugar Demon You know that feeling you get when you crave something sweet? I mean have-to-have-it-now, kind of crave. When you’re so used to filling your body with sugar, then go without for a bit? I often refer to that as the sugar demon. You’ll be cutting out almost all sugar for your cleanse, and it may not be pretty. If this is you, prepare for a challenge, but know that you can do this! Sugar leads to inflammation, and you know where that will get you; prone to pain, illness, and disease. So, do your body a favor and cut out the added sugar. Besides, you may find you can do without a lot of the sweet stuff after you’re through.  Following these quick tips will help keep your body strong and nourished during your cleanse. Give me five days to help you reset your body and mind. Start your transformation today.   Keep thinking Big and living BOLD!

Smoothie Cleanses: Helpful or Harmful?

by Dr. Kellyann on Oct 16 2019
It seems the chatter of cleanses is everywhere. With so many available today, it can be tough to tell which option is beneficial to the body and mind and will provide valid results. In order to know if smoothie cleanses are a safe, healthy, and effective option, we need to examine them carefully. On the surface, "smoothie cleanse” certainly sounds healthy. Besides, everyone says it helps boost energy and lose inches, right? But do they all? Is a Smoothie Cleanse Healthy? Don’t let the fruits and veggies fool you. Not all smoothies are created equal. Your typical smoothie cleanse is loaded with sugar and that abundance of sugar can send your cells into disarray. One cleanse in particular contains up to 50 grams of sugar from fruit per drink. Their plan’s daily recommendation is six drinks per day to see results. A quick calculation tells me this doesn’t sound like it will do much to help you cleanse and reset or lose weight. Sugar can do a tremendous amount of damage to your body. More often than not, a smoothie won’t have the cleansing or healing power you are led to believe. In fact, you can pretty much expect the opposite. Here’s how it works: sugar is consumed, then reacts with fats or proteins in your body. They end up forming advanced glycation end products, or AGEs. AGEs are destructive compounds and are responsible for causing inflammation throughout your body and can stiffen your tissues. Studies have found that AGEs can be linked to an overwhelming number of health issues, including: Alzheimer’s disease Premature aging of the skin, including wrinkles Diabetes Considerable increase in the risk of cancer and metastasis A smoothie cleanse high in sugar content may also shorten your telomeres; the tips found on the ends of our chromosomes. What does this mean for you? Simply put, the shorter the telomeres, the more susceptible your body will be to various diseases. Shorter telomeres are also linked to your body aging more rapidly. The smoothie cleanse from your favorite shop just became your body’s worst nightmare, didn’t it? The lesson to be learned here? Beware of any high sugar content smoothie cleanse claiming to be something it’s not. They’ll wreak havoc on your body instead of rejuvenating it. Why My Smoothie Cleanse IS Healthy for You My original goal was to create a fast-acting cleanse for myself. One that was healthy and rich in the essentials I needed to heal my body at a time when it was failing. What I walked away with was a five-day cleanse and reset that gave me back my physical and mental health, energy, and radiance. I needed to reset my body. I carefully selected foods that would not only cleanse and reset my cells but charge them back up so I could feel like me again. By removing the excess sugar and processed foods from my diet, I gave my unhappy gut some time off from the abuse it was taking. I loaded up on the right smoothies, juices, and soups with: Greens rich in phytonutrients Collagen and bone broth, for their abundance of nutrients Clean protein A variety of healthy fats I restored all that my body had been deprived of and felt revitalized. Can a Smoothie Cleanse Help You Lose Weight? Just because it calls itself a fruit smoothie cleanse doesn’t necessarily mean it’s good for you. If it’s loaded with some serious sugar, it’s not going to heal your body. It’s just that simple. Do I even need to mention the pounds you’ll be adding on with all that sugar? On my cleanse and reset, I allow a limited amount of sugar and encourage clean protein. You won’t have to worry about gaining weight instead of shedding it. I even provide you with lists of “yes” foods, satisfying recipes, and a smoothie cleanse plan that genuinely helps you burn fat and slim down.  A Better way to Smoothie Cleanse If you've tried smoothie cleanses with little to less-than-stellar results, I hope this has shed light on why. Instead of loading your body with so much sugar, my smoothie cleanse combines phytonutrients from greens, healthy fats, and clean protein from your favorites and mine - collagen and bone broth. Together they provide protection, removal of toxins, healing, and more. What Can You Eat on a Smoothie Cleanse? A smoothie cleanse that is truly beneficial and will help cleanse and reset your body should be loaded with: Soups with a bone broth base: Provides your body with amino acids Fights inflammation, starting with your gut to combat illness and disease throughout your body Restores, heals, and repairs Rich in glycine Hydrolyzed collagen: The structural protein that is the “glue” to hold it all together Provides a healthy glow and returns skin’s firmness Replenishes hair and nails Promotes strong bones Helps slim unwanted belly fat Fresh fruits and vegetables Rich in phytochemicals to flush toxins from your body and restore energy and radiance Rich in fiber to promote a healthy GI tract free from high blood sugar, bloating, and constipation Curb your cravings and hunger to support weight loss Smoothies with Superpowers While there is a wide range of fruits and veggies you can eat on your smoothie cleanse, a few, in particular, possess superpowers. You’ll want to make sure you load up on these superfoods. Among them are: Celery: loaded with luteolin and apigenin to fight cancer Beets: contain betalains to fight cancers and inflammation Citrus fruits: filled with hesperidin to promote blood vessel health Raspberries: provide the highest amount of ellagic acid; lowers cholesterol and fights cancers Cruciferous vegetables: high in glucosinolates which fight various cancers. Among them are: Kale Collard greens Radishes Watercress Wasabi Arugula Bok choy Broccoli Brussels sprouts If you’re ready to give me just five days, I’ll walk you through my Cleanse and Reset. You’ll enjoy smoothies that will work for you, not against you, and gut-healing soups and juices that actually cleanse. With flexible options and a variety of choices, there’s no reason not to start your journey to health and happiness today! Keep thinking Big and living BOLD!

Four Super Berries You Should Be Eating

by Dr. Kellyann on Oct 09 2019
Super Berries. You’ve heard of them. Chances are you've eaten plenty of them, even if it wasn’t for intentional health benefits. So, what makes them so super anyway? Sure, they’re full of vitamins and nutrients to help you live a healthy lifestyle. But why have some earned the title of super berries? What are the benefits of eating berries? Berries with extremely high levels of nutrients, antioxidants, minerals, fiber, and a fantastic list of potential health benefits are known as super berries. They offer benefits necessary to cleanse your system and even pair well with the Keto lifestyle. These berries are linked to helping: Reduce inflammation throughout your body Cleanse your system Protect against various illnesses Improve your blood sugar What berries to eat on the keto diet? The great news is the Keto lifestyle encourages super berries. While there are fruits that are off-limits with Keto, due to their high net carb and sugar content, super berries make the cut. Keep in mind; they do still contain their fair share of sugar and net carbs. Amounts can range from roughly six to seventeen grams per cup so you’ll want to monitor your portions. Eat blueberries while on the keto diet. Full of vitamin K, blueberries are always a winning choice. One cup of these little guys will provide you with vitamin C, manganese, and fiber. They also contain anthocyanins; the antioxidant that reduces your risk of heart disease. What are the benefits of eating blueberries? Improve artery function Reduce heart attack risk Lowers LDL cholesterol Reduce your risk of type 2 diabetes May improve brain health While on the keto diet, eat raspberries! Raspberries can help you feel full, thanks to the spike in leptin they provide. They have also been linked to: Reducing the size of polyps; abnormal cells in the colon which can later lead to cancer Improved heart health A reduction in oxidative stress Strawberries are perfect for the keto diet. An excellent vitamin C source, strawberries make the Keto cut, can drastically improve heart health, and lower your risk for diabetes. It shares many of the similar benefits other super berries offer, so keep these anti-inflammatory fruits on hand! Cranberries for the keto diet. If you’re looking for a bit of a sour kick to mix up your super berry menu, cranberries are it! As I’m sure you’ve heard, they are powerful UTI reducers. Cranberries fight against E. coli, which cause urinary and bladder infections. Drinking cranberry juice or taking supplements are also beneficial forms of the berry, as long as you watch the sugar content.  Eat tasty treats with super berries on the keto diet. Blackberry and Blueberry Bone Broth Popsicles are one of my favorite go-to treats for helping to cleanse my system. While you can certainly substitute your berries, it’s a snack that provides a wealth of benefits for your skin and body. You know I’m a huge fan of bone broth and the good it does! So imagine pairing it with the deliciousness of super berries! If you aren't already getting your daily dose of these healthy berries, there's no better time than the present to start. If you already have a few of these in your fridge, head over to my recipe section and whip up something yummy! Keep thinking Big and living BOLD!

What Can Five Days Do for You?

by Dr. Kellyann on Oct 07 2019
If you haven’t heard about my Cleanse and Reset, get ready for some exciting news. After experiencing my own urgent need for major cleanse and rejuvenation, I developed a five-day cleanse that reset my body and mind. Yep, just five days! Imagine starting out your cleansing week on a Monday morning, and by Friday, you're feeling lighter, healthier, and yes, even happier! AND…no need to cleanse through your weekend. Sounds like a winning plan, doesn’t it? What is a Cleanse? Let's clear up a misconception about cleansing. Not all cleanses will leave you feeling hungry, sluggish, and depleted. In fact, they shouldn’t. A cleanse should help you feel renewed and ready to take on the world. By pumping your body full of nutrients, you’ll help your body’s natural cleansing systems rid your cells of toxins. Your systems will be functioning at full capacity once again, leaving you feeling like you’ve just gotten a fresh start. Why a Five-Day Cleanse? Now, you’re probably thinking to yourself; there are so many cleanses out there. All seem to be of varying lengths and designs. So, which one is the best? My Cleanse and Reset Five-Day Cleanse was based on seeing a maximum weight reduction in most people within the first five days of any cleanse.  Sure, three days of cleansing is better than nothing, but you’re just ramping up into high gear by day three. It just isn't quite long enough to benefit from the impact a full five-day cleanse can offer your body. Around day three, most people are noticing some pretty amazing digestive changes. The uncomfortable bloat is finally disappearing, and you’ve already begun to get into this new eating groove after day two. By sticking around for days four and five, you are really feeling the benefits. Your body is regaining the energy it’s been lacking. Your belly is flatter. Your skin and hair are bouncing back to life. Even your mind is clear, and you're feeling at ease. You can always choose to extend your cleanse a day or two. You may also consider following your five-day cleanse with my 10-Day Belly Slimdown or Bone Broth diet. A Balanced Diet The Cleanse and Reset will help you get your body back on track, trim away belly fat, and ensure your body receives the proper balance of nutrients. Did you know that even with the best intentions, not all healthy eaters are getting a true, balanced diet? Through research, John Berardi, Ph.D., found that even athletes on healthy diets and routine exercise did not meet the recommended micro- and macronutrient intake. I designed my cleanse to help you feel great, not depleted; leaving you drained and right back where you started. I want you feeling young, vibrant, and sexy again. I had three goals in mind; rest, restore, and revitalize. You'll notice a difference as soon as the first day, but after a full five days, you’ll reap the rewards the Cleanse and Reset has to offer. If it can turn my health around, I know it can do the same for you. Keep thinking Big and living BOLD!

What the Cleanse and Reset Did for Me

by Dr. Kellyann on Oct 02 2019
Are you looking for a way to get back to the healthy, more energetic you that you used to be? I want you to know you're not alone. We all have busy lives; trying to juggle too many things at once, and sometimes our own health suffers. We become too busy to exercise, to get the proper amount of sleep, and to stick to a healthy diet when grabbing food on the go is so much more convenient. Trust me; I've been there too. In fact, the Cleanse and Reset was a plan I developed for myself to help get me back on track. The results were astonishing, and I knew I just had to share them. The Day I Crashed It was 2017, and I was running myself ragged. I was jumping from interviews to patients and squeezing everything else in between. I was neglecting my body and what it was trying to tell me. Long story short, my body had had it with the abuse. I found myself staring up at one of the flight attendants during another weekly coast-to-coast commute. As I drifted in and out, I remember wondering why I had been ignoring all the signs.  A Need to Cleanse and Reset When I took stock of what led up to that moment, I realized I hadn't felt myself for quite some time. Physically. Mentally. Emotionally. I was utterly exhausted and still pushing myself. I was running in so many different directions that I forgot to follow my own routines. My body was starved for rest and my usual healthy lifestyle, but I hadn't been listening. Everything about me was out of whack. I knew I needed something to cleanse and reset my hormones, metabolism, and overall health and wellness. Cleansing My Way Back to “ME” I had a dire need to create a quick, effective, low-stress cleanse to restore my body and mind. I was done feeling fatigued, putting on more weight, and seeing the dark circles and tired lines staring back at me in the mirror. I compiled everything I knew about cleansing my system, boosting my energy, getting rid of belly fat, and restoring a healthy glow to my skin. I began experimenting to find the cleanse that would restore my health. And you know what? I felt a change within days!  The Reset Button I had found a way to jump-start my body back on the right course. My tummy was already slimming. I could feel my usual perky self emerging. And that dreadful sluggish feeling I felt from the weight of all the stress was quickly lifting. I was shedding the unhealthy lifestyle I had somehow let myself get sucked into and emerging a restored ME! So, let me ask you — is your body trying to tell you something? Have you been ignoring all the signs and pushing yourself towards the edge? I challenge you to give me five days to show you how my Cleanse and Reset can restore the real you. In just five short days, you’ll feel better, look better, and be better. Let me show you how! Keep thinking Big and living BOLD!

Top 10 Liver Cleansing Foods

by Dr. Kellyann on Sep 30 2019
Committing yourself to a healthier lifestyle is a huge and commendable step. We all have different reasons for choosing to create a better, healthier version of ourselves. So, where do you start? Which changes to your daily diet should you make? What goals should you set for yourself? What do you want to improve most about your overall health? And how will you set out a course that you are sure to follow? After all, you want to make a lifestyle change, not set out on another short-lived diet, right? Let’s start with a cleanse that will help you rid your body of old habits and harmful toxins, so you can start fresh. How do you choose the best starting point? Between cleanses, detox diets, and bone broth fasting, you may be a little overwhelmed with information. We’ll begin with the basics of how to cleanse your body the right way.  What’s the difference between a detox and a cleanse? Now some of you are probably scratching your head and wondering what the real difference is. While most people tend to use the two words interchangeably, and there are indeed several similarities, there are also several differences worth noting. A detox and cleanse both aim to rid your body of impurities. They’re beneficial to your health and help your body function at its fullest potential. In a nutshell, a cleanse focuses in on ridding toxins from your digestive tract. A detox helps support your body’s natural detoxification process. What are toxins? That leads us to our next biology tidbit: What is a toxin?  To put it simply, a toxin is any particle that stays inside your body and causes harm. Harmful effects include inflammation, irritating your cells, and causing disruption to the normal, healthy functions of your body. Without the help of a cleanse or regular cleansing foods in your diet, you may experience symptoms such as: Anxiety Depression Joint pain Inflammation Sluggishness Headaches Digestive issues  Can the body remove toxins naturally? Your body can do many miraculous things, but it can’t run the show solo forever! Your body does have a set of systems in place to help get rid of toxins naturally. It works hard to protect your cells from damage, while the cells themselves work to keep themselves cleansed. It's an impressive setup, but you do need to do your part in helping your body stay healthy and supporting its efforts. The cells in your body are naturally generating free radicals all the time. For you to function at your best and look healthy and rested, your body needs to cleanse to get rid of the waste. A steady diet of healthy cleansing foods is one way to support its needs to cleanse and detox. Without proper elimination of toxins from your body, you could put yourself at risk for several health issues, including: Various disease and illness Certain cancers, such as breast cancer Impaired cognitive function Loss of memory Extreme fatigue Fine lines and wrinkles Pain and inflammation Stubborn belly fat (yep…toxins store themselves in your body fat) What are fat-soluble toxins? Let's take a moment to explore the trouble with fat-soluble toxins. Did you know that when you start to lose weight, these toxins can be released into your system? Scary thought, right? In fact, it’s highly likely to happen during extreme and rapid weight loss. This is only one of many reasons why a quick-fix diet is not a healthy way to go. What toxins do I need to avoid? Toxins, unfortunately, are a part of our daily lives. Although avoiding all of them just isn’t practical, limiting your exposure to them is at least doable. Be aware of your surroundings; the air quality in your home or work environment. The skincare regimen you choose. It all adds up. In addition to doing your best to reduce your daily exposure to harmful toxins, you can also change your eating habits to boost liver cleansing. Why is it Important to Cleanse the Liver? Your liver plays an enormous role in the overall health of your body. It is ultimately responsible for filtering, processing, and breaking down the matter that passes through your body. It has a tremendous amount of responsibility, including: Filtering your blood Helping your blood clot Breaking down various chemicals and substances, such as alcohol and drugs you put into your body Produces glucose and bile; substances your body needs to remain strong and healthy Why boost liver cleansing efforts? If your liver becomes overloaded with toxins and pollutants, its natural ability to cleanse will slow and become less effective. Want to support your liver and help it take care of your body? Lifestyle changes such as adding a periodic cleanse, adding cleansing foods to your daily routine, and setting goals to work towards a healthier you will help boost liver cleansing. Make a conscious decision to avoid filling your body with: Alcohol Drugs Processed foods Fried foods The best liver cleansing foods and beverages. What are the best cleansing foods and beverages to help boost liver cleansing? I’m glad you asked because I have some delicious suggestions for you to try. If these yummy cleansing foods aren’t already a part of your regular diet, get that shopping list out and start adding to it! Let’s start with some top cleansing foods and beverages that are considered superfoods in their ability to boost liver cleansing. Cleanse your liver with turmeric. A fragrant cooking spice, powerful anti-inflammatory, and long-time healing agent, turmeric has the natural ability to boost liver cleansing. This cleansing superfood contains antioxidants and supports enzymes that are responsible for cleansing your liver of toxins. Did I mention it’s crushing this task, all while helping to repair the cells in your liver? Impressive, isn’t it? Eat cruciferous vegetables to cleanse your liver  These super veggies include favorites like broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, and kale. They make up a significant source of glutathione; responsible for triggering toxin cleansing enzymes which boost liver cleansing abilities. Choosing to add a variety of cruciferous vegetables to your diet will help increase glucosinolate in your body. This increase can help flush out harmful carcinogens and toxins before they cause or increase damage. Beetroot is excellent for cleansing your liver. If you haven’t heard this from me before, beetroot is a must on your list of cleansing foods. Where do I even begin? Full of incredible antioxidants, nutrients, vitamins, and nitrates, beetroot is a superfood you’ve got to get on board with for your cleanse. It contains natural cleansers like fiber and vitamin C, which support a healthy digestive system. They also work hard to cleanse your blood by increasing your oxygen. If that wasn’t impressive enough, beetroots are also credited with:        Stimulating the flow of bile in your liver Boosting enzyme activity Breaking down toxic waste to speed up its excretion  Drink tea to cleanse your liver. Tea has been used for so many health reasons for centuries. Sleep. Mental health. General health. And now there are studies which have shown tea’s ability to boost liver cleansing. A study conducted in Japan showed impressive results from those who drank five to ten cups of green tea daily. Results showed improved blood markers of improved liver health. Catechin, a plant antioxidant found in green tea, is believed to be the reason for this remarkable outcome. Add garlic to your meals to cleanse your liver. Who doesn’t love a little (or a lot) of garlic in their diet? Loaded with sulphur, it activates the liver enzymes that are responsible for helping your body rid itself of toxins. Garlic also contains high levels of selenium; an essential micronutrient that has shown to help boost the natural antioxidant enzyme levels in your liver. Selenium gives your liver the power to fight off damage caused by oxidative stress. Adding garlic is a simple way to boost liver cleansing efforts. Eat citrus fruits to cleanse your liver. Citrus fruits are loaded with Vitamin C which is great for cleansing your liver.  Vitamin C is responsible for stimulating your liver while aiding in turning toxic substances into those that can be more easily absorbed by water. Grapefruit is one citrus fruit that is particularly beneficial because it contains two primary antioxidants that help protect your liver from damage.    Along with these top superfoods, there are other cleansing foods I want you to add to your list as you work on your efforts to boost liver cleansing.  Carrots are excellent liver cleansing foods. Carrots are a great addition to your list of liver cleansing foods. These tasty little guys are incredibly high in plant-flavonoids and beta-carotene. These two are responsible for stimulating and supporting your liver's overall function and performance. Carrots also contain vitamin A, which is known to help prevent liver disease. Cleanse your liver with avocados. Avocados are always a win in my book for liver cleansing food. Not only are they perfect for helping to cleanse your arteries, but they also help your body naturally produce glutathione. You’ll recall that glutathione is the compound that supports your liver by helping it get rid of toxins. Stock up! There isn’t much that avocados don’t taste great with. Eat apples to cleanse your liver. You’ll never escape that old saying that an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Not only are they the perfect low-calorie snack, but they are also a great cleansing food to help you boost liver cleansing efforts. They contain high levels of pectin; a chemical that helps your body naturally cleanse itself by releasing toxins from your digestive tract. By reducing the number of toxins in your digestive tract, your liver can function at an optimal level. It can manage the toxin load, cleanse your liver, and ultimately be able to cleanse your entire body better. Who knew those little guys could do so much? Drink coffee to cleanse your liver. Yes, coffee. I know there are many of you out there wondering how in the world coffee made it so high onto a liver cleansing food list. Can you believe that your morning pick-me-up is not only great for keeping you awake, but for being able to play a role in helping to boost liver cleansing? What if I told you that studies have shown your cup of coffee is helping protect your liver from disease? And if your liver has already encountered some damage, coffee is still working to protect it from further health issues. Here’s what we’ve learned: In people with chronic liver disease, studies have shown that drinking coffee can lower your risk of cirrhosis, or permanent liver damage Drinking coffee is associated with lowering your risk of death if you already suffer from chronic liver disease Your daily coffee drinking habit may also be reducing your risk of developing a prevalent type of liver cancer Coffee may have a positive effect on health issues such as inflammation and liver disease Coffee may have the ability to prevent collagen and fat build-up, which are two primary markers seen in liver disease Drinking coffee reduces inflammation throughout your body while increasing levels of glutathione These results were seen when three or more cups a day were consumed. My favorite liver cleansing food is bone broth. Aside from the delicious taste and variety of recipes you'll find to incorporate it into your diet; it's always going to be my favorite way to cleanse. Packed full of collagen, my bone broth will provide your body with an array of amazing benefits. You'll free yourself from inflammation and leaky gut, and rid your liver of toxins. Bone broth will help you fight off that stubborn belly fat, and provide you with oh-so-many beauty bonuses. You'll see a healthier, more youthful glow, less fine lines and wrinkles, and have that shiny hair you've always wanted. Sound good? I bet you're glad I snuck in an eleventh cleansing food, huh? Is Your Body in Need of a Cleanse and Reset?

by Dr. Kellyann on Sep 27 2019
Have you been feeling bloated, sluggish, and unmotivated? Do you find yourself having trouble sleeping, concentrating, or even enjoying life as much as you used to? Your body may be trying to tell you something, and it shouldn’t be ignored. Trust me. If you’re sitting there picking your brain, trying to remember the last time you truly felt good, it’s time to take action, my friend. Your body needs a five-day cleanse. A Lesson Learned the Hard Way It was 2017. I was traveling from coast to coast for interviews, appearances, launches, and seeing patients. I was managing to do it all! Or so I thought. What I wasn’t doing was practicing what I preach. Now if you’ve been with me a while, you know I’m one to walk the walk. But at this particular time in my life, I forgot to take care of ME; plain and simple. In the midst of all the running around, my body was crying out, but I wasn’t listening. In fact, it wasn’t until my body threw in the towel that I began to see all the signs I had ignored. Yep, my body gave out on me. If you happened to be on that flight wondering what all the commotion was; yes, that was me. There’s nothing like being in your seat in its upright position one moment, and on the floor, opening your eyes to a flight attendant above you the next. My body had spoken, and I was finally forced to listen. My Body Needed to Cleanse and Reset. Period. As I took a mental inventory of what could have led up to my grand appearance on the airplane’s floor, I began to have many ah-ha moments. I hadn’t felt like myself in quite some time. I’m a pretty upbeat, active person. The realization that I had lost my spunk and joy somewhere along the way was a red flag I’d somehow missed. I couldn’t recall the last time I had seen my reflection without the dark circles under my exhausted eyes. Or when my last regular workout was other than speed-walking to my next appointment. I had been running my body into the ground, and it had finally had enough. It was screaming for a reset, and I was in no shape to deny it one.  And the Five-Day Cleanse Was Born I put all my knowledge and experience to work to develop a plan. I needed a powerful and fast-acting cleanse that would flush out the toxins I had let take over. I was done feeling bloated and unhealthy. I wanted to bring back that radiant, youthful glow I used to have. I wanted to feel revived and happy once again. And I did! As I experimented with several ideas, I soon began to notice a drastic change. My stomach was slimming. My gut was behaving. My skin began to fill with color once again. The fog was lifting, and my mind and body felt rejuvenated. I felt like ME again! Is Your Body in Need of My Cleanse and Reset? Let me ask you a few questions. Be honest with yourself and really tune into what your body is trying to tell you. Do you wake up in the morning without feeling refreshed? Do you often have trouble sleeping? Do you find yourself battling fatigue? Have you been gaining weight easily? Do you find it difficult to get the weight off - especially belly fat? Does your skin lack the healthy glow it once had? Is your skin feeling dry? Are you noticing more fine lines and wrinkles? Have you been anxious? Unsatisfied? Disengaged from others?Has your gut been acting up? Do you find yourself sick more than usual? These are only a handful of questions I ask you to address in my new Cleanse and Reset book, but it should give you an idea of what your body is feeling. Did you answer many of these with a yes? If you did, then consider this your wakeup call! Don’t wait until you’re 35,000 feet in the air, wondering what you’re doing on the floor. My five-day cleanse is for you. If you answered with several yeses, it’s time to act now. Take control of your life again. It’s time to say goodbye to the belly fat, the exhaustion, the unhappiness. Imagine how much better you can feel in just five short days. The path back to the healthy, happy YOU is just ahead, and I’m going to help you get there. I’ll walk you through preparing your body for the cleanse and what you can expect each day. I’ve even prepared helpful tools and recipes to take the guesswork out of the equation for you. A Cleanse to Benefit Everyone You may be thinking to yourself that you don't need a cleanse and reset. You get in enough hours of sleep, eat well, exercise regularly, and enjoy life. But even if you are healthy and fit, you can still benefit from my cleanse and reset too. In fact, even after I finished my own five-day cleanse, I made it a point to return to the cleanse and reset four times a year. It helps give my body that extra boost of energy, slims me down, clears my mind, and gets rid of the toxins, so my body is functioning at full capacity, year-round. I don't do it because I feel like I'm headed towards a repeat of 2017. I do it because I know it's good for my body and it helps me feel rejuvenated. It tightens and brightens my skin. It takes care of any stubborn belly fat that may have crept back on. And it keeps my gut healthy and happy. So, for those of you that are already in tip-top shape, you're ahead of the game, and I applaud you. But trust me when I say you'll still benefit from this amazing five-day cleanse and your body will love you for pampering it. Don’t spend another day putting off your health and happiness. Which “Milk” is Best for You?

by Dr. Kellyann on Sep 23 2019
Making a conscious decision to lead a healthy lifestyle is huge! There are so many wonderful benefits to the choice you’ve made, and I want you to know I am right here to support you! You’re going to look, feel, and BE healthier than ever. With this decision comes a commitment to changes that can significantly affect your life-long success. One of these choices is what to consume and what to say goodbye to in your normal diet. But don’t frown just yet — with those farewells come great benefits! You’ll enjoy radiant, glowing skin. Think of that healthy flowing hair. And wait ‘til you see a slimmer, toned body that supports your health both inside and out as a thank you for treating it well! Should I be consuming dairy? So, let’s get right to it. Although I haven’t spent a lot of time on the subject lately, it’s definitely going to be a game-changer for many of you. I’m talking about the great milk debate. That’s right. The once good-for-your-bones product is getting the ax. But not without good reason.  Did you know that most of us can’t tolerate dairy products? You probably know someone who’s lactose intolerant, but have you ever stopped to consider that some of those unpleasant symptoms you often experience could mean YOU are intolerant too? You don’t need the dreaded label if you’re seeing the signs. Think about the last time you had milk or any other dairy product. Symptoms of dairy intolerance Diarrhea Bloating Uncomfortable cramping or pains Gas Constipation Health issues because of dairy intolerance Skin rashes or other irritations Stuffy nose Congestion Asthma flare-ups or worsened asthma conditions  Does drinking milk strengthen bones? If you haven’t heard by now, drinking milk does NOT protect you from brittle bones. In fact, studies have even shown that milk intake can play a role in increasing the risk of some bone fractures. Crazy, right? Crazy, but true. One Harvard Study over twelve years found no evidence of milk offering your bones protection. So why put your body through the agony of keeping it in your diet? Besides, you have bone broth for all your vitamin and nutrient needs, right? Healthy dairy alternatives I know there are still going to be those of you that don’t think you can part with milk. Believe me, I get it. It’s tough, and dairy can literally be an addicting food. But you do have alternatives that will support your new healthy lifestyle. You can just as easily enjoy milk alternatives that provide the benefits of a healthy, happy gut and all the goodness that comes with one. So, let’s take a look at what’s out there… Oat Milk Now, if you’ve chosen the Keto or Gluten-free path, oat milk may be an option for you. It’s a plant-based “milk,” so it’s made up primarily of grain. Mixed with water then strained to remove the pulp, it’s a slightly sweetened option with a thicker, creamier texture. It also more closely resembles milk. It is unbelievably easy to make at home and worth a try with only seven grams of fat and nine grams of carbs (where are my Keto fans?). What are the drawbacks of purchasing oat milk? Can potentially contain gluten, unless the oats are certified gluten-free Oats are grains – this could upset grain-intolerant guts or a low-carb diet if that’s the route you’ve chosen “High concentration” claims of nutrients and vitamins are typically added after the fact; not naturally Possible gums, preservatives, and stabilizers can be found Almond Milk  A great alternative for those who have chosen the healthy lifestyle of Keto is almond milk. Since Keto does not allow you to consume milk, the unsweetened almond alternative is a fantastic option. Choosing this version is low in carbs — only 1.99 grams per cup! It’s also low in calories, offers vitamins, nutrients, and a bit of protein. Almond milk that does not contain sugar or carrageenan does not cause inflammation or contain a bunch of hormones. When you weigh in the cons of almond milk below, you see that the smart choice, again, is to make your own. What are the drawbacks of purchasing almond milk? Most of the vitamins and nutrients are added in after the fact It usually contains only 2% almond, and the rest is basically water Usually has sugar, added flavors, and various ingredients including the dangerous carrageenan Coconut Milk Certain coconut milk options are perfect for my Whole 30 enthusiasts. When choosing a Whole 30 approved option, look for the unsweetened version, and AVOID carrageenan. Stay clear of any sweeteners listed in the nutrition label AND in the ingredients list itself. The triglycerides in coconut milk are fatty acids that provide your body with energy that can be used before stored. The rich, creamy texture also comes from healthy fats. What are the drawbacks to purchasing coconut milk?  Artificial sweeteners Carrageenan Now, if you’re a coconut lover like I am, you may want to take a peek at a helpful little guide I whipped up explaining the many differences of all things coconut milk and cream. I wouldn’t want you unknowingly ruining that healthy lifestyle you’re working so hard for. Still, think you may need a “dairy” fix once in a while? I have just the solution for you. Try my Paleo Espresso Gelato with Chocolate Chips. It’s a dairy-free alternative that will have you forgetting you ever had a love affair with milk. Trust me. You’ll also find a variety of other delicious dairy-free and dairy-alternative recipe options I’ve shared to help satisfy those cravings while you adjust.  So, there you have it. A handful of milk alternative options for a healthier lifestyle. The good. The bad. And the homemade. While there are always substitutions that can be made, explore, and choose the products that best support your health goals and needs. Drinking Lemon Water: Myth or Must?

Drinking Lemon Water: Myth or Must?

by Dr. Kellyann on Sep 03 2019
I’m sure you've heard many claims over the years of the benefits of drinking lemon water, but how accurate are they? Is there any truth to lemon water being more beneficial in the morning?  Will it really help you get beautiful, radiant skin? Does adding lemon have the ability to change the pH balance in your body? With so many claims out there, it can be a little frustrating trying to separate myth from truth. Let’s take a look at some of those lemon water claims and figure out what health benefits it may be able to provide you. Most of us are very aware of the necessity of water and the amazing benefits it provides us, including:  Keeps your body hydrated Helps flush out impurities Keeps your skin healthy Supports digestive health Supports kidney health But let’s take a deeper look at the possible health benefits of adding lemons and drinking lemon water daily. Did you know lemons have a long list of healthy nutrients you may not be aware of? Not only are they low in sugar, but you'll also find nutritional value, including: Riboflavin Folate Vitamin B6 Vitamin A Vitamin E Calcium Magnesium Iron Lemons contain fiber and plant compounds; credited with helping to reduce blood cholesterol. Vitamin C also serves various health benefits and can be found in lemons. Lemon Water Benefits Lemon Water Boosts Your Immune System Lemons are a good source of vitamin C; known for boosting your immune system by helping your body produce more white blood cells. White blood cells keep you healthier by fighting off viruses and bacteria; perfect for warding off colds and the flu. But now we need to ask: Am I getting a large enough dose of vitamin C by drinking lemon water? The National Institutes of Health states the average woman needs approximately 75 mg of vitamin C daily. The juice of one lemon will provide approximately 31 mg of vitamin C. So by cutting up just one lemon a day and squeezing it into the water you drink throughout the day you’ll be well on your way to the recommended 75 milligrams a day! Drinking Lemon Water Helps Balance Your Body’s pH Levels It’s been said that although lemons are acidic, they can help with the pH balance of your body after they’ve been metabolized fully. This is attributed to its alkalizing effects and has even been credited with helping treat inflammation throughout the body. Some patients with arthritis, gout, and sciatica have said they’ve found relief from adding lemon water to their diet. But can it really have this much power over the pH balance in your body? I hate to tell you that this is yet another dietary misconception. The foods you eat just don’t have the ability to change your pH balance. But don’t get me wrong; water is always a healthy and powerful choice and should be a huge part of your daily routine. Lemon Water Promotes Healthy Skin Water will always be beneficial for healthy, glowing skin. And now we’re hearing that adding lemons has the fabulous effects of youthful-looking skin, fewer wrinkles, and banished blemishes? It’s true that vitamin C provides astounding skin benefits. Your skin will have fewer fine lines and put up a strong fight against acne. It will have a brighter, healthier tone and reduced dryness. Add to it the amazing benefits of collagen and your skin will have a youthful glow. While there are no studies with concrete evidence to support the claim that lemons in your water are a must to achieve these results, water is still your skin’s BFF and is a must with or without the lemon! Lemon Water Makes a Great Diuretic They say sipping on warm lemon water throughout the day will help purify your body. Supposedly, starting your day off with a glass helps get your system moving. While you sleep, your body is losing water; making water in the morning a great way to start your day. Flushing toxins regularly with water alone helps your body stay healthy. Adding lemon to your water may help promote some healthy digestion, but there just isn’t enough proof to support the lemon claim. While it certainly can’t hurt, chances are, all the credit should still be going to your daily water intake and not the lemons added into your water. Get Rid of Kidney Stones by Drinking Lemon Water It’s true - lemon water can help reduce the risk of kidney stones. Already have a few stones lurking around?  Lemons can help boost your urine’s citrate levels, leading to the breakdown of certain stones. Citric acid causes an increase in your urine pH and creates a not-so-friendly environment for stones. If you haven’t experienced a stone, consider yourself fortunate and drink up that lemon juice! Drinking Lemon Water Helps You Lose Weight While water, in general, is fantastic for your overall health, as well as helping you meet weight loss goals, adding lemon to your water may also provide weight loss benefits. A study noted warm lemon water in the morning helped in the suppression of body fat, as well as a reduction in weight gain in their subjects. Morning lemon water was credited with quicker weight loss results. You’re also filling your stomach with an extremely low-calorie, low-sugar beverage that will keep you hydrated, cleansed, and feeling fuller. Lemon Water Improves Your Digestive System Have you been hearing that lemon water helps with your digestive system by providing relief from: Heartburn Bloating Diarrhea Constipation Gas Indigestion Normal daily water intake helps flush out impurities. Some studies suggest that a glass of warm lemon water as soon as you wake up can help get your digestive system going for the day. There is some truth to this. If you add the pulp of lemons to your water, you can improve your gut’s health. Pectin, the main fiber found in lemon pulp, helps slow sugar and starch digestion and may lower your blood sugar levels as well. Lemon Water During a Keto Diet If you’ve chosen a keto lifestyle, you’ve probably heard mixed reviews on the effects of lemon. Will lemon water interfere with ketosis? Does it improve detox effects while on the keto diet? What do you really need to know? Keto is a low-carb lifestyle, so hydrating your body is a must! Yes, it’s always a necessity, but with the keto diet, your limited carb intake is what releases excess sodium and water from your body. While we want excess water retention gone we still need to stay hydrated. Adding lemon may give you extra nutrients along with a refreshing way to stay hydrated on keto. Will Lemon Water Prevent Ketosis? If you’re worried about the fructose levels booting you out of ketosis, there’s no need. Lemons only have about two grams of carbs per ounce, so your keto efforts aren’t at risk. In fact, a little lemon water cleanse can be good for your keto plan if you stay away from pasteurized lemons. These have added sugar and have been stripped of their vitamin C benefits. So, there you have it! A closer look into the myths and musts of drinking lemon water. Keep thinking Big and living BOLD!

Top 5 Ways to Help Your Body’s Natural Detox Process

by Dr. Kellyann on Aug 12 2019
Our bodies are amazing, aren’t they? Have you ever just taken a moment to think about all the fabulous things our bodies do for us? Especially when we make it a point to keep it well taken care of. One of those awe-inspiring functions is its ability to remove toxins from our system and protect us from illness. Just think about that for a moment. Our bodies are self-cleansing and self-detoxifying! So how is this all possible and what can we do to help support it? Toxins Let’s start by breaking it down. What exactly is a toxin? They are harmful substances that can damage your body after one exposure or repeated exposure over a certain period of time. And whether we like it or not, we’re all exposed to low-levels of toxins every day. Even inside your own home. Unfortunately, even these low-level exposures take their toll on our health. Health issues such as memory loss and migraines can be attributed to toxic heavy metals, which attack our brain cells. Neurodevelopmental disorders, including learning disabilities, have been linked to various chemicals and pesticides as well. While our bodies do have a way of cleansing and detoxing, there are still many toxins out there we just can’t break down easily. These particular toxins end up being stored in our fat tissue and eventually sneak into our bloodstream. From there, they’re able to do their damage on areas including: Brain Heart Lungs Eyes Stomach Sexual organs Liver What Are the Signs? Wondering if you’re in need of a detox? You know your body best so pay attention to signs that may be pointing to your body asking for your support. There are many signs ranging from subtle to more severe, including: Skin irritation Bloating Menstrual issues Allergies Fatigue that can’t be easily explained Low grade infection Puffiness, dark circles, or bags under your eyes Cognitive changes such as confusion A Self-Cleansing Body When your body goes through a detox, it is cleaning your blood by removing various toxins and impurities. Toxins are removed from all areas of your body, including: Kidneys Liver Intestines Skin Lymphatic system Lungs The Importance of Gut Health You’ve heard me say over and over how important it is to keep your gut happy and healthy. Let me remind you that gut health is directly related to the health and proper functioning of your entire body. Making your gut health a priority can help reduce the risk of an ongoing list of additional health issues. Not only that, gut health is also linked to the cleansing and detox functions of your body. A happy gut means protection for your entire digestive system, including your oh-so-important liver. Your liver is responsible for preventing food toxins from reaching your bloodstream by acting as a filter. It has the ability to take in your bacteria and toxin-filled blood, cleanse it, and send it back out. Keeping your liver in good shape also supports its role in storing vitamins, producing bile, and digesting fats. But that’s not the only vital role your digestive system plays. Let’s take a look at how all of these are intertwined.  The Role of a Happy Gut When we have poor gut health, waste and other unwanted substances can actually be reabsorbed back into our system. Yuck. Not only does this increase the risk of toxins wreaking havoc in our bodies, but it also puts undue strain on our organs. They’re already working overtime to keep our toxin levels low, so why add poor gut health to the load? A well cared for gut helps the natural cleansing process in ways you may not realize. For instance, when the inner wall muscles of our intestines are healthy, they are able to relax. This allows food to be moved through the intestine without trouble. You’ll also be supporting the health and functioning of your kidneys. They act as a constant filter for your blood and flush out toxins through your urine. When there are no tears in your digestive system for food to escape through, you are not at risk for the added toxins caused by leaky gut. Similarly, the health of your gut makes for a strong stomach lining. It is then able to protect itself from potential damage by gastric acid. When your gallbladder is stimulated to produce and release bile, it will help flush cholesterol and toxins to your colon. A healthy colon is vital since it is responsible for the removal of those toxins. Signs of Poor Gut Health and an Overworked System Even if you feel you’re doing everything you can to stay healthy and fit, your body still needs your help. Your organs are constantly working overtime to detox and provide natural cleansing. As your organs become burdened and overworked, there are several symptoms you may notice and should pay close attention to, including: Bloating Fatigue Muscle aches and pains Digestive issues If these issues are left and untreated, you could be leaving yourself vulnerable to more serious health problems. Take your gut health and exposure to toxins seriously. So, What Can You Do? Try committing to a lifestyle change that will benefit your health while supporting your body’s cleansing abilities. Here are five fabulous ways to get started: Choose foods that help support your body through the natural detox and cleansing process. Contrary to what some people think, they are definitely certain foods with the ability to heal your body and remove impurities, while also improving your gut health. Let’s take a look at some of my favorite go-to foods: Beets are known to help keep your liver strong and healthy. They provide support your liver needs and help get rid of your body’s toxins. Collard greens are full of calcium. Adding foods rich in calcium can help protect your body against toxins such as lead. Garlic and onions support the detox and cleansing process by making the antioxidant glutathione. Extremely rich in sulfur, this antioxidant is crucial because it will latch onto toxins in your body and carry them out. It is particularly helpful in flushing out heavy-metals and protecting your kidneys against damage. Peas and Spinach, along with other foods high in vitamin B1, help rid your body of lead by reducing its ability to absorb this horrible toxin Lemons are a great example of a food that can help flush out impurities. Lemon juice is known to stimulate your liver for this very purpose. Lemons also contain vitamin C, which helps produce glutathione. Water, water, and more water! Drinking plenty of water each day helps eliminate waste and keeps all systems functioning properly. Pretty simple way to detox, right? It also supports healthy kidney and bowel functions. Drop in a wedge of lemon and your body will love you for it. Quick tip: Be sure to drink filtered water to help cut down on your exposure to impurities. Limit your exposure to pesticides by eating organic foods. We know we can’t avoid all toxins we are exposed to on a daily basis. However, we can make conscious choices that help reduce extra exposure, so why not choose to put our health first? There are so many hazardous chemicals, additives, artificial colors and flavoring, and even dangerous packaging materials out there. Going organic is one huge step in the right direction. Exercise regularly to help rid your body of those toxins! On top of the many other amazing benefits of adding physical activity to your routine, exercise will help eliminate unwanted waste from your system. Adding thirty minutes to an hour each day can help you strengthen, tone, shed pounds, increase mood, boost energy and flush your system. In fact, what if I told you that exercise will even help speed up the cleansing and detox process? Here’s how it works: When you exercise, blood is circulated throughout your body more efficiently. This allows the nutrients you’ve taken in to be more easily dispersed to your muscles and organs. By exercising, you are also helping circulate your lymph fluids throughout your body. This process helps remove the toxins from your body. Exercising causes you to increase the amount of oxygen you take in. To take in additional oxygen, your cells will need to push out the stored toxins to make room for the extra oxygen. Pretty impressive. By exercising, you’ll also remove toxins through the pores of your skin as you sweat. So start up that exercise routine! Get your rest! You may not realize this, but sleep is an important part of detox. Establishing regular sleep patterns has been linked to detoxing your brain. In fact, research has shown that waste is removed from your brain during the hours of sleep. This brain detoxification is known as the glymphatic system. When you deprive your body of enough sleep, toxins begin to build up as your glymphatic system becomes less effective. Some of these toxins and waste that build up in your brain are believed to be linked to various brain diseases, including Alzheimer’s. Great reasons to make sure you’re getting your beauty sleep. Take care of your gut! I just can’t stress this one enough. In order to keep your body working and running smoothly, you’ve got to make a conscious effort to do right by your gut. You can support gut health easily with the food choices you make. And what do you always hear me rave about when it comes to gut health? Bone broth and collagen! Yes, it’s really that simple! Adding bone broth and plenty of collagen to your daily routine is a quick and easy way to get your system back on the road to wellness and warding off toxins. Not only will you strengthen the systems at work that protect your body from harmful toxins, you’ll be creating a strong defense against additional health issues.  Other major benefits from adding collagen-rich bone broth to your daily diet include: Radiant, youthful skin tone, thanks to collagen Improve your skin’s firmness and elasticity Reduce fine lines and wrinkles Strengthen your hair and nails Shed unwanted pounds Improve your muscle tone Reduce your risk of heart disease Reduce your risk of certain cancers Reduce inflammation And the list goes on! Bone broth is packed full of vitamins, nutrients, and collagen; all necessary to keep your gut happy. And the amazing bonuses the skin gets from collagen are just too good to pass up. Cleansing Made Easy By making bone broth and collagen part of your health routine, you can also support your body’s cleansing abilities by incorporating an intermittent fast. While you may be thinking fasts are not for everyone, you might change your mind in a moment. With my intermittent plan, you’ll choose two days a week to fast, while sipping on six tasty cups of collagen-filled bone broth throughout the day. Don’t worry, it’s so filling that you won’t have the unwanted headaches or feelings of constant hunger and cravings.
