Cleansing Around the Holidays
It can be tough to think about staying healthy and maintaining your weight around the holidays. I get it! We’re all human. We have work parties, family gatherings, and get-togethers with our friends. And with the holidays come the endless displays of holiday food, am I right? Cakes and cookies line the tables in the breakrooms. Buffets of holiday hams, hot chocolate, and easy to grab finger foods are everywhere you turn. But what do you do if you’re trying to stay true to your healthy lifestyle? Or maybe you’ve chosen the holiday season to start a 5-day cleanse of your body? Besides, a cleanse and reset of your system is a great way to fit into that sexy holiday party dress in a time crunch!
Choosing the Right Way to Cleanse and Reset
Don’t let the holiday stress creep up on you. Your goals are attainable, and it all starts with the right cleanse. You already know there are a ton of cleanses out there, and many can be incredibly restricting. Often, people tend to give in to their cravings, or even toss in the towel instead of seeing it through. When you’re trying to cleanse and reset your body, but you’re being limited to unfulfilling foods, juices, or smoothies, you’re already at a disadvantage. And who wants to deal with that around the holidays? Besides, these are the types of cleanses that tend to leave you feeling sluggish, low on motivation, craving junk foods, and putting up with a growling tummy every day. Doesn’t that sound like fun?
Here’s where the issue lies; restricting you from daily protein and a small amount of fiber and healthy fats is restricting you from the energy and fulfillment your body needs in a time like a cleanse and reset. Think of how drained you’d feel trying to make it through a 5-day cleanse with zero energy. It’s a little unnerving and makes you hungry just thinking about it. The truth is, these are essential to your body! Proteins and fibers provide you with the energy to tackle your day when you’re drastically limiting your daily intake. And if you're anything like me, you need all the power you can get to survive the hectic pace the holidays bring. Choosing the right way to cleanse and reset is vital to your health and success.
Dr. Kellyann’s Cleanse: Unlike the Rest
When my health was at risk, I knew I needed a way to cleanse and reset without feeling depleted, hungry, or even thinking about wanting to give up. That isn't what a cleanse should do. If you commit to a beneficial lifestyle change that can bring fabulous results, you should be rewarded for it, not punished with dread and hunger, right? So, I knew I wanted my 5-day cleanse to have delicious varieties of juices, soups, and green smoothies. They all provide your body with the necessities your body needs to be renewed, restored, and completely re-energized. I knew that flooding my body with vital nutrients would provide the support my body and its natural cleansing systems need to help cleanse and reset cells weighed down by toxins. And the bonus benefits make a pleasant addition too. But more on that in a moment.
My 5-day cleanse is a collagen-packed liquid plan that allows your digestive tract time off from digesting solids. Your digestive system needs this time to rest and heal from battling toxins and working to keep your body healthy. Think of liquid collagen like liquid gold. Bathing your cells in the healing, soothing, and strengthening powers that come from all that bone broth is an incredible feeling. Many of my patients have had great success with the cleanse and have often said the Dr. Kellyann Cleanse is a 5-day cleanse and reboot that turned their lives around. Their body and mind began to function at full capacity and allowed them to feel like themselves again.
Dr. Kellyann’s Cleanse Meets the Holiday Season
I can’t stress enough how many benefits collagen, gelatin, and all ingredients in bone broth have. And the new Dr. Kellyann Cleanse will provide your body with all of these. Why do I mention this? Because the stubborn belly fat that's keeping you from feeling and looking your best in that holiday dress hanging in your closet is directly related to the inflammation that currently fills your body. The 5-day cleanse could be just what your body needs this season. So, maybe you want to slim down for a holiday get-together. Or wondering what you’ll be able to eat during all those holiday parties.

One thing I love about the Dr. Kellyann Cleanse book is the abundance of recipes you’ll get to choose from. And who better to share them with than your friends and family? Having the option to choose gives you more control over your health. One of the best ways to have more control over what foods you will have to choose from during the holidays is to be the hostess! Now, for those of you that are groaning at the thought of prepping, entertaining, and cleaning up, just hear me out. If your friends and family typically go all out around the holidays, and you’re just not sure how you’ll fair around all those delicious dishes, then hosting could be your chance to shine!
With the honor of being the hostess, you also gain the power of controlling the menu. And THIS is where the holidays become less stressful for you. Warming Winter Soups
Fill your guests’ bowls with what I love to call “broth loading” soups. Why? Because they load you up with all of the essential nutrients in bone broth, with the additions of healthy fats and nutrient-packed vegetables. They take care of soothing, healing, and strengthening your gut wall and work towards removing those toxins to beautify your skin and slim your tummy. The soups in the Dr. Kellyann Cleanse book will spare you from cravings because they’re so filling and keep you satisfied for hours.
Turkey Bone Broth
Prep time: 15 minutes
Cook time: 2 to 8 hours (dependent upon your cooking mode)
Servings: 1 gallon of turkey broth
What you’ll need:
3 or more pounds of raw or cooked turkey bones or carcasses
2 or more pounds of turkey thighs, legs, and/or wings
Optional: add 6 to 8 chicken feet (they add a tremendous amount of collagen to your broth)
1⁄4 cup of apple cider vinegar
2 to 4 carrots, scrubbed and chopped
3 to 4 celery stalks, including the leafy part, roughly chopped
1 medium onion, cut to the desired size
1 to 2 garlic cloves
1 teaspoon of dried sage
2 teaspoons of Celtic or pink Himalayan salt
1 teaspoon of peppercorns
For additional fat-burning power, you may choose to add fat- burning spices: 1-inch piece of fresh ginger, sliced
A handful of parsley or cilantro
1 teaspoon of fresh or ground turmeric
1⁄16 to 1⁄8 teaspoon of cayenne
1 to 2 teaspoons of cumin
Place all of the bones into your large stockpot, slow cooker, or pressure cooker. Add the vinegar and enough purified water to cover everything in your pot by one inch. Add all of your vegetables, herbs, and spices. Add more water, if needed.
Follow the instructions for the mode of cooking you choose:
On the stovetop:
Over medium heat, bring the water to a simmer and reduce the heat to low. Cover and let simmer for at least 4 hours and up to 8.
Add water as needed, so the bones are always covered.
In a slow cooker:
Set your cooker to low, cover, and let simmer for 8 hours.
In a pressure cooker or Instant Pot:
Using your cooker’s instructions, bring up to full pressure.
Reduce the heat to low, maintaining full pressure, and cook for 2 hours.
Allow the pressure to naturally release.
When the broth is done, remove bones and meat. Pour the broth through a fine mesh strainer into a large bowl.
Discard the solids and save the meat for future use.
Tip: can also refrigerate or freeze the bones and reuse them to make more broth at another time.
Let the broth cool completely before covering it and placing it in the refrigerator. When chilled, the broth should be very gelatinous. The broth will keep for approximately five days in the fridge and 3 or more months if you store it in the freezer.
Holiday Dessert to Drool Over
Your guests will never believe your desserts are good for them! Wait until you tell them they’re not only delicious, but can help them maintain a healthy lifestyle, support healthy skin, and keep them from craving toxin-filled junk food they may usually pile on their plates!
